Job description
About the Role
Owns the end-to-end user journey for the next iteration of CNN Underscored. It sits within CNN's New Business division, which is dedicated to expanding beyond traditional news and shaping the future of digital shopping guidance. The product leader will deeply understand audience mindsets, shopping behaviours, and pain points, translating those insights into a cohesive, trusted product experience from purchase discovery through decision and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end experience and user lifecycle of CNN Underscored, ensuring every stage of the user journey is seamless, intentional, and valuable.
- Investigate user segments, shopping habits, and real-world alternatives through continuous qualitative and quantitative research to identify friction points and build solutions tailored to user mental models.
- Partner closely with Design, UX Research, Engineering, and Editorial leads to translate customer insights into product hypotheses, wireframes, and scalable solutions, steering strategic product areas with high complexity and ambiguity.
- Define core performance metrics that balance business goals with genuine user utility, ensuring products are trusted and revisited.
- Generate product briefs, user stories, and documentation to drive alignment across the team, and help run team ceremonies to keep progress on track.
- Lead execution of an MVP for the Underscored evolution and evolve it iteratively based on user and business needs.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 8+ years of consumer-facing product management experience, with experience leading complex and ambiguous customer problems, particularly in the shopping, commerce, decision-making, or loyalty space.
- Demonstrated experience taking a product or major business line through the full lifecycle, owning discovery, strategy, UX, launch, and iteration, rather than managing isolated features.
- Deep expertise in user research, persona development, and Jobs-to-be-Done (JTBD) frameworks, with the ability to articulate who users are and why they behave as they do using concrete evidence.
- Experience thriving in ambiguous, zero-to-one, or rapid evolution environments (e.g., tech scale-ups, agile media platforms, or dedicated product pods) where cross-functional leadership is key.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively partner with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Experience with editorial partners and a curiosity about content, formats, and storytelling.
- Strategic thinking with the ability to balance user needs with business goals, and comfort with ambiguity and new product spaces.
Salary
- Actual salaries will vary based on job-related factors including geographic location, external market data, internal equity, skill set, experience, training, education, and/or performance.
- Base pay is one component of the total compensation package; other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and programme-specific awards.
Benefits & Perks
- Health insurance coverage
- Employee wellness programme
- Life and disability insurance
- Retirement savings plan
- Paid holidays, sick time and vacation
