Estimating & Procurement Manager (Sport Signage)
Mid Level
Amberg, Germanyhybrid
Full time
Job description
About the Role
This role sits within the Sport Signage group and supports racetrack and sports-event signage projects, with Formula 1 as the primary workload. It builds robust, well-informed estimates and coordinates procurement inputs by bringing scope, design and technical information, supplier quotations, labour and resource assumptions and operational inputs into a clear costed estimate. The estimate is reviewed by the Commercial Director and Director of Operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate approved or working scope into structured estimates covering materials, labour, plant, logistics, rentals, suppliers, design and technical needs and other relevant cost elements.
- Document key assumptions, exclusions, quantities, rates and dependencies, and identify missing scope or cost information to drive clarification before an estimate is treated as complete.
- Obtain input from the Director of Operations or Operations Managers on labour, methodology, equipment and event assumptions, and work with the Head of Design and Technical-CAD on materials, buildability, fabrication and installation details and technical complexity.
- Convert specialist operational and technical input into a coherent estimate rather than passing disconnected inputs to the Commercial Director.
- Source and coordinate supplier quotations within approved procurement processes, comparing scope, price, lead time, quality, capacity and commercial terms and flagging gaps or inconsistencies.
- Maintain clear supplier quote records and ensure procurement assumptions match the estimate.
- Prepare estimates in a consistent format, make material cost drivers, risks, contingencies or allowances and exclusions visible, coordinate operational review with Jurgen or Operations and commercial review with the Commercial Director
- And update estimates following agreed review comments while retaining version control.
- Support or coordinate supplier purchase requirements, confirmation of scope and delivery dates after project approval within delegated processes, and communicate material changes in supplier price or availability promptly to Commercial and Operations.
- Provide timely cost assessments for client changes, revised designs or delivery-method changes, and maintain traceability between the original estimate, the approved change and the current commercial position.
- Maintain cost knowledge, supplier history and recurring project cost information, use completed-project feedback to improve future assumptions, and standardise estimating templates
- Quote-request packs and review checkpoints to reduce duplicated effort and improve estimate turnaround without sacrificing quality.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Strong estimating experience within signage, live events, fabrication, temporary structures, construction, experiential or a comparable project-based industry.
- Good practical understanding of materials, labour, plant, logistics and supplier cost drivers.
- Experience obtaining and comparing supplier quotations and supporting procurement decisions.
- Ability to challenge incomplete briefs and build structured estimates from complex scopes.
- Cost estimating and cost build-up.
- Procurement and supplier comparison.
- Scope analysis and basis-of-estimate documentation.
- Commercial and operational awareness.
- Spreadsheet or estimating-system discipline.
- Cross-functional coordination and numerical accuracy.
Preferred Skills
- Motorsport or Formula 1 experience is highly advantageous.
Workplace
- This role can be based in either the Amberg, Germany or Orpington, London office.
- Hybrid working with 3 days in the office.
- International event and supplier travel as required.
