Job description
About the Role
Sits within Global Technology's Consumer Product and Innovation organisation and supports a team of engineers building technology experiences that power Nike's Product Creation ecosystem. The team is investing in modern, modular, configurable, API-first capabilities that can be reused across Product Creation applications and workflows to enable greater connectivity, speed, and scale. The role partners with product creation leaders, designers, innovators, researchers, data scientists, and technology teams to transform how Nike products are imagined, developed, tested, and brought to life.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and communicate a product roadmap, partnering closely with business stakeholders to drive decisions and prioritise the team's work.
- Translate ambiguous research and innovation goals into clear, actionable product requirements and a well-groomed backlog.
- Operate successfully within the engineering environment and help it evolve over time.
- Review technical designs, code, and tests, giving supportive feedback and asking good questions.
- Foster a collaborative environment that rewards experimentation, initiative, curiosity, and mentoring.
- Manage the performance, growth, and career development of direct reports, including setting expectations, delivering regular feedback, and writing performance reviews.
- Lead HR administration for people leadership, including hiring and interviewing, onboarding, compensation planning, and other personnel matters, in partnership with HR.
- Help shape modern, modular, configurable, API-first capabilities that can be reused across Product Creation applications and workflows.
- Coordinate across engineering teams and provide technical guidance and coaching to engineers.
- Partner with product creation leaders, designers, innovators, researchers, data scientists, and technology teams to transform how Nike products are imagined, developed, tested, and brought to life.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Senior engineering manager who pairs technical depth with product ownership.
- Clear technical, managerial, and career direction, with judgement about when to dig in versus when to lean on the team.
- Strong technical background across multiple stacks and current knowledge of emerging technology, tools, and patterns.
- Experience owning a product end-to-end, partnering with stakeholders to define what to build, why it matters, and how it fits into a strategic roadmap spanning a year or more.
- Ability to build strong partnerships with less technical stakeholders in complex enterprise environments.
- Comfort translating ambiguous research and innovation goals into a clear, prioritised plan of execution.
- Strong technical and non-technical communication skills, including translating business and research goals into technical requirements.
- Experience owning a product roadmap and prioritising a backlog in partnership with stakeholders, balancing new features, technical debt, and shifting business priorities.
- Reliable instincts regarding the consequences of complexity.
- Expertise in designing, building, and consuming reliable, secure, synchronous, and asynchronous web services for front-end utilisation.
- Experience building consumer-facing web UI utilising modular and reactive UI frameworks.
- Understanding of the differences between analytical data and transactional data, and the implications of each on system design and AI, with the ability to anticipate and plan for them.
- Ability to lead architectural design discussions grounded in best practices and lessons learned from own experience.
- Practice, evolve, and promote agile development methodologies, including experience acting as or working closely with a product owner.
Preferred Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; will accept any suitable combination of education, experience, and training.
- 7+ years' experience in technology and software engineering roles.
- Experience leading engineering teams in a highly collaborative environment.
- Experience partnering with product managers or owners on roadmap definition, prioritisation frameworks, and translating user needs into actionable backlogs.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the roles, skills, activities, practices, tools, and deliverables applied at every phase of the software lifecycle.
- Experience with front-end frameworks such as React, Vue.js, or Angular.
- Hands-on experience implementing and supporting modern software architectural principles and patterns such as REST, domain-driven design, and microservices.
- Experience with cloud architecture, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and related tools.
- Strong understanding of architectural design patterns and computer science fundamentals.
- Experience with integration patterns, data movement, and enrichment capabilities, along with an understanding of the enterprise security and privacy requirements they carry.
- Experience gathering and synthesising requirements from non-technical stakeholders such as researchers, designers, and scientists.
- Comfort making data-informed product decisions, including defining and tracking success metrics for delivered features.
The Application Process
Accommodations are available to complete the interview process, including screen readers, sign language interpreters, accessible and single-location in-person interviews, closed captioning, and other reasonable modifications as needed.
