Job description
About the Role
This role owns Huel's EMEA Quality & Food Safety agenda and is accountable for driving the EMEA QFS strategic plan across a complex international manufacturing base. It protects the brand and customers while enabling Huel to scale safely across the region. The role leads the EMEA QFS function and works with co-manufacturing partners, Product Supply, the Milton Keynes factory team and Regulatory & Compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the EMEA Quality & Food Safety function, taking overall accountability for food safety and quality across all Huel products and sites, including raw materials and co-manufacturing across RTD, Powders, Bars, Hot & Savoury and other categories.
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing EMEA team across three direct reports and their teams, providing clear direction, building capability and ensuring strong ownership across each function.
- Define and drive the EMEA QFS strategy, delivering right-first-time products and an outstanding consumer experience, setting CPMU reduction targets and driving continuous improvement across all sites.
- Ensure compliance with EMEA food safety regulations and standards such as BRC, FSSC 22000 and SEDEX, and own and continually improve Food Safety & Quality Management Systems including HACCP, VACCP, TACCP and GFSI standards.
- Oversee EMEA raw material suppliers and co-manufacturers, ensuring ingredients and products are safe, compliant and consistently meet Huel's standards while building strong partnerships and a resilient supply network.
- Own the EMEA-wide co-manufacturing performance strategy, setting clear governance, KPIs and accountability across all categories and sites to drive improvements in quality, consistency and CPMU.
- Lead regulatory and food safety risk assessments across the UK, EU and wider EMEA region, including heavy metals, pesticide residues and other contaminants, translating legislation and findings into effective risk-management and compliance actions.
- Take ownership of the end-to-end testing agenda for ingredients and finished products, ensuring timely analysis, monitoring trends and driving investigations and corrective actions where needed.
- Act as the key escalation point for EMEA food safety incidents and quality crises, leading decisive responses, clear stakeholder communication and escalation to the Technical Director and SLT when required.
- Work closely with Product Supply, the Milton Keynes factory team and Regulatory & Compliance to strengthen manufacturing controls, support regulatory initiatives including DRS, PPWR and market registrations, and champion a culture of food safety and continuous improvement across Huel.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Proven QFS leader with 10+ years' experience in the food industry (FMCG, manufacturing or retail), with deep knowledge of Food Safety & Quality systems across EMEA.
- Brilliant people leader able to build, develop and inspire multi-disciplinary technical teams, providing clear direction and structure while empowering autonomy across three direct report functions.
- Strong technical knowledge of EMEA food law, ingredients, nutrition and manufacturing processes, with the curiosity and foresight to spot emerging risks and opportunities across the region.
- Hands-on experience with products similar to Huel's range, including powders and dry ingredient mixes, RTD/aseptic bottling, canning, bars and Hot & Savoury, within an EMEA manufacturing environment.
- Confident communicator and natural relationship builder able to influence and collaborate across NPD, Supply Chain, Logistics, Procurement and Commercial/Marketing teams, and represent Huel credibly with regulators, accreditation bodies and co-manufacturing partners.
- Strong understanding of allergen controls, testing methodologies and limits, alongside experience working with third-party accreditation bodies to maintain high standards.
- Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Food Technology or a related discipline.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment, motivated to set ambitious goals, think differently, push boundaries and work collaboratively.

- Internal or lead auditor certification (FSSC 22000 or BRC).
Workplace
