Job description
About the Role
This role sits within THE·TEAM's Sport Signage group, which specialises in racetrack and sports-event signage and delivers end-to-end services from creative design and production to logistics, installation and software solutions. The Risk, Compliance & H&S Manager owns Sport Signage's specialist health and safety, operational risk and relevant compliance framework. The role establishes standards, supports project and event teams, provides specialist advice, monitors implementation and ensures that significant risks, incidents and compliance issues are visible to leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain practical H&S policies, standards, templates and minimum controls appropriate to Sport Signage activities, covering office and warehouse activity, transport interfaces, event installation, off-track build, compound activity and contractor use.
- Establish standards for risk assessments, method statements/RAMS and related event safety documentation, supporting teams with higher-risk or unusual activities and challenging inadequate controls while maintaining clear review and approval requirements.
- Review significant event risks and support Operations Managers during planning and delivery, attending selected events based on risk, complexity or client requirement and providing specialist guidance where site conditions or scope changes affect safe delivery.
- Plan proportionate audits and site inspections, record findings and assign actions, follow them through to closure and identify recurring systemic weaknesses across teams and events.
- Maintain a consistent reporting process for incidents, near misses and significant hazards, support or lead investigations appropriate to severity, ensure corrective actions address root causes and escalate serious matters promptly to the appropriate leadership level.
- Define key H&S competence and training requirements relevant to roles and activities, maintain oversight of completion and expiry information in coordination with HR and Operations, and support briefings, toolbox-talk standards and targeted training.
- Set expectations for relevant contractors and specialist suppliers, review H&S information proportionate to the risk of outsourced activity and support Procurement and Operations in addressing poor contractor safety performance.
- Maintain organised records of relevant H&S documentation, actions, incidents and assurance activity, monitor applicable requirements with support from external specialists where legal interpretation is needed, and ensure client and venue compliance requirements are captured and communicated.
- Provide clear, practical advice to leadership and managers, encourage early reporting of hazards and stop-work decisions without creating a blame culture, and challenge unsafe shortcuts including where programme or cost pressure is high.
- Use audit, incident and event data to identify trends and priority improvements, track actions and report meaningful risk and H&S performance to leadership, and update standards based on lessons learned and changes in the operating model.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Professional experience in health and safety, operational risk or compliance within events, construction, temporary works, manufacturing or comparable environments.
- Strong practical understanding of site-based work, plant, work at height, lifting and contractor environments.
- Experience with incident investigation, risk assessment and H&S assurance.
- Ability to influence operational teams without relying solely on formal authority.
- Relevant professional H&S qualification, as defined by HR based on applicable legal and company requirements.
- Risk assessment and H&S systems skills.
- Practical site inspection and assurance skills.
- Incident investigation and corrective action skills.
- Ability to produce clear written safety documentation.
- Training, coaching and influencing skills.
- Data and trend analysis skills with the ability to escalate to senior level.
Preferred Skills
- International event or motorsport experience is advantageous.
Workplace
- Role can be based in either the Amberg, Germany office or the Orpington, London office.
- Hybrid office policy, with 3 days per week in the office.
- Regular international event travel required.
