Graduate - Technology and Data Intern

The 2027 NBA Summer Internship is a 10-week program running from 7 June to 13 August 2027 that gives participants the opportunity to learn about the business of basketball, develop critical career skills and contribute to meaningful projects across a range of departments in the NBA and its affiliate leagues, the WNBA and G League. Selected interns are placed in one of the departments responsible for internal and external technology, digital products, data strategy and analytics, namely Data Strategy & Analytics, Direct-to-Consumer and Information Technology. Alongside on-the-job experience, interns are invited to take part in a broad array of professional development programming as well as community and social experiences.

• Collaborate on cornerstone digital products to improve the fan experience
• Create and maintain user interfaces, optimise site performance and ensure a seamless user experience
• Coordinate with data engineers, data analysts and BI developers on end-to-end model development and deployment to the wider NBA business infrastructure
• Design statistical analysis and visualisations relating to league structure, rule changes, game play, improvements to the competition format, and the implementation of technologies to improve player health, game integrity and fan engagement across all NBA properties, including the NBA, WNBA
• NBA G League and NBA 2K League
• Perform various cross-departmental quantitative analyses regarding on-court activities and trends, which are used to evaluate the NBA's core product
• Write TypeScript/JavaScript code for NBA products across the ecosystem of HTML5-powered connected devices, including Xbox, PlayStation, Samsung, Hisense, Chromecast and Comcast
• Complete trend analyses, including reviewing events and incidents, and provide summary reports
• Follow workflow processes, automations and integrations
• Iterate AIOPs ML modules based on updated insights and learnings
• Identify and resolve technical issues and bugs across NBA products and websites
• Integrate data from various sources, such as player statistics, schedules and live scores, into the website using APIs to enhance the site's content
• Synthesise business requirements and incorporate them into platform capabilities and scalability

• Enrolled in a graduate degree program majoring in Data Science or Technology
• Data Science majors include Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Marketing Analytics, Marketing Research and Sports Analytics
• Technology majors include Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity and Engineering
• Foundational mastery of AI technologies in driving project execution and achieving business objectives
• Excellent academic standing
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Leadership skills as demonstrated through relevant extracurricular or community activities

• Strong understanding of technology and software development
• Ability to convey ideas clearly, both in writing and verbally, and to collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Experience with probability and statistics
• Capability of identifying problems and proposing creative solutions
• Exposure to relational databases and SQL
• Experience with, or desire to learn, scripting languages such as Python or R
• Experience with software engineering and system design
• Intermediate background and experience working with Microsoft Excel
• Professional or course-based experience with analytical projects
