Staff Software Developer

CNN Digital Commerce is seeking a Staff Software Developer with experience in modern enterprise-class languages and development platforms, particularly JavaScript and Node. The role involves design, implementation, testing, and deployment of web applications, with an advanced understanding of the software development life cycle. The engineer will create customer-facing products, testing artefacts, and tooling, and will communicate technical thinking and decisions to the team through design diagrams and review meetings.

• Participate in the design, implementation, testing, and deployment of web applications.
• Create customer-facing products and associated testing artefacts.
• Develop tooling to support product delivery and operational excellence.
• Apply an advanced understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC) to development work.
• Test and learn newer technologies and concepts related to best practices and operational excellence.
• Communicate thinking processes and decision-making to the team through design diagrams and review meetings.
• Ensure product success against requirements through effective communication.

• 10+ years of software development experience, with a strong focus on application development.
• 10+ years of experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, Express, and React/Vue/Angular, along with working knowledge of Postgres, Elasticsearch, and Redis.
• Proven ability to mentor peers and provide technical guidance across these technologies.
• Expert-level working knowledge of modern engineering technologies such as Fastly, AWS, Serverless/SAM, CloudFormation, Docker, Jenkins, and Git.
• Deep industry experience with modern development technologies and hands-on familiarity with both client and server technology.
• Solid understanding of common software data structures and algorithms.
• Previous involvement in building medium to large-scale, mission-critical, high-availability production systems that directly support essential business, technical, or operational functions.
• Demonstrable excellent design skills and related strengths in clearly articulating difficult technical concepts and information.
• Active in the technology community.
• Experience with strategies to monitor code health, infrastructure health, and performance of applications.
• Experience in modern enterprise-class languages and development platforms, with a strong emphasis on JavaScript/Node.
• Advanced understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC).
• Communication skills needed to ensure product success as per requirements.
• Ability to test and learn newer technologies and concepts on the job related to best practices and operational excellence.
• Ability to communicate thinking process and decision-making viably to the team through design diagrams and review meetings.

• Experience working in e-commerce, affiliate platforms, and consumer media.
• Experience working on Kanban/Scrum teams and the tools used for project management.
• Experience with interviewing and talent acquisition.
• Experience with Agile methodologies (e.g. Scrum or Kanban), with demonstrated support for practices that allow for continuous deployment and incremental delivery of business value.
• Good system engineering skills (e.g., common industry database design and practices, application architectures, operating systems concepts, networking, etc.) in addition to application development skills.
• Experience in non-procedural programming or applying functional-style concepts professionally.
• Two years of object-oriented JavaScript experience.
