Job description
About the Role
As a Senior Software Engineer within FanDuel's Risk and Trading Technology team, the role sits in a cross-functional agile team that directly impacts the business. The engineer works collaboratively to implement creative, high-quality solutions, scope effort and timelines, and balance stakeholder and engineering priorities, taking ownership of every part of the software delivery lifecycle. The role works directly with quantitative analysts to improve market making capabilities, acting as a domain expert on strategy implementation (quoting and decision logic) and how it fits into the wider Risk and Trading landscape, including real-time risk controls, execution outcomes, and performance measurement.
Key Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively within a cross-functional agile team to implement creative, high-quality solutions, scope effort and timelines, and balance stakeholder and engineering priorities.
- Own every part of the software delivery lifecycle, including testing, deploying, monitoring, and maintaining software.
- Work directly with quantitative analysts to improve market making capabilities, acting as a domain expert on strategy implementation (quoting and decision logic) and its place in the wider Risk and Trading landscape.
- Build and evolve components that support real-time quoting and decisioning, with careful attention to latency, throughput, and correctness.
- Implement and maintain risk controls and guardrails such as exposure checks, limits, throttling and filters, and kill switch patterns.
- Ensure high-quality decision logging so strategies can be debugged, replayed, and improved using real quote and fill outcomes.
- Partner with quants and stakeholders to define and monitor key metrics such as quote ratio, win rate, expected versus realised margin, and exposure and capital utilisation, and identify opportunities to innovate in the quantitative space.
- Write simple, extendable code following standards and best practices, test it thoroughly, and limit the use of short-term workarounds.
- Participate in code review, design discussions, team planning, and ticket, metric, and COE reviews to help the team evolve.
- Classify, store, and handle data in accordance with FanDuel policies, and track, mitigate, or escalate security risks in a timely manner.
- Focus on operational excellence, resolve the root cause of complex problems, leave software better and easier to maintain than it was found, and take part in on-call rotation where required to provide excellent customer support.
- Mentor and develop others, pair program with more junior engineers, train new team-mates on how the team's software is constructed, operated, and secured and how it fits into the bigger picture, and help recruit and interview for the team.
- Estimate stories and tasks accurately, deliver them on time, and keep up to date with market standards and open-source frameworks.
