Mid Level
Amberg, Germanyhybrid

Job description
About the Role
The Operations Manager is responsible for the overall successful delivery of assigned Formula 1 events on behalf of Sport Signage. The role acts as the central operational owner of the event, coordinating delivery workstreams including installation, off-track builds, compound operations, logistics, inventory and assets, fleet, technical requirements, project support and on-site resources. It ensures that each event is properly planned before mobilisation, delivered safely and effectively on site, and closed out correctly afterwards.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall operational responsibility for each assigned Formula 1 event, maintaining an integrated view of agreed scope, client requirements, programme, site conditions, operational constraints and delivery priorities
- And act as the primary operational escalation point while escalating significant matters to the Director of Operations where necessary.
- Lead pre-event operational planning and readiness, confirming requirements for installation, off-track builds, compound, labour, equipment, vehicles, plant and machinery, logistics, inventory and assets, technical support, suppliers, access and accreditation, schedules
- Venue restrictions and health and safety; coordinate functional leads, identify interdependencies and confirm readiness before equipment and teams mobilise, raising concerns early where the event cannot reasonably be delivered with allocated resources, equipment or programme.
- Own the overall operational event programme, sequencing activities logically against client and venue requirements; coordinate mobilisation, venue access, deliveries, compound setup, installation, off-track builds, snagging, live dates, dismantling, asset return and demobilisation, monitor progress
- Coordinate recovery actions for delays and ensure changes to one workstream are communicated promptly to other affected teams.
- Act as the senior Sport Signage operational lead on site, providing direction to the event team, maintaining a clear view of delivery status, running operational briefings, resolving conflicts between workstreams, ensuring decisions are made at the appropriate level without unnecessary escalation
- Maintaining communication with the Director of Operations during significant phases and creating an environment where functional leads own their specialist responsibilities while operating as one event team.
- Work closely with the Installation Manager to ensure installation activity supports the overall event programme, confirming installation priorities, access requirements, handover points and dependencies
- Review progress, identify impacts on the broader schedule and support significant cross-functional issues without directly managing individual installers as part of normal event operations.
- Integrate off-track builds into the overall event programme, ensuring off-track teams have the required access, equipment, materials, personnel and logistics support
- Understand dependencies with other workstreams, monitor progress and intervene where off-track delivery may affect overall event completion, while the Off-Track Build Lead retains ownership of the off-track build scope.
- Ensure compound requirements are incorporated into the event plan and work with the Compound Manager on location, access, setup, equipment, welfare, storage, operational layout, vehicles, services, security and dismantling requirements
- Ensure the compound is ready to support the wider event team, while the Compound Manager retains responsibility for compound setup, operation, standards and associated resources.
- Use the Event & Project Assistant as the event's central coordination and information-support resource, ensuring access to information required for accurate schedules, contacts, resource records, change logs, data capture, progress records, issue tracking and closeout documentation
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Significant operational experience within motorsport, live events, signage, temporary infrastructure, production or a similar project-based environment.
- Experience managing complex event delivery on site and coordinating multiple operational workstreams.
- Experience managing teams and specialist functional leads.
- Strong understanding of installation and event build environments and immovable delivery deadlines.
- Experience managing labour, equipment and logistical requirements.

Workplace
- Can be based in either the Amberg, Germany or Orpington, London office.
- Hybrid working: 3 days in the office.
- Extensive international travel throughout the Formula 1 season.
