Job description
About the Role
Will lead the establishment, implementation and day-to-day operation of the BWF Coach Licence, a global professional membership programme designed to recognise, connect and support active badminton coaches throughout their careers. The programme complements, rather than replaces, BWF Coach Certification, and aims to strengthen coaching standards through ongoing professional development, recognition and engagement. The role sits within the Development department, reports to the Development Director, and works across BWF departments, Member Associations and Continental Confederations.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate the approved Coach Licence strategy into a phased operational plan with defined responsibilities, milestones, procedures, service standards and launch-readiness measures
- Coordinate preparation and refinement of the business case, including eligible-coach population estimates, low/central/high participation scenarios, pricing options, implementation resources and cost of delivery
- Lead operational workstreams for design, pilot testing, launch, ongoing administration and enhancement
- Establish cross-departmental working arrangements across Development, Digital & Technology, Communications, Commercial, Finance and Events
- Maintain delivery plans, operational risks, decisions and progress reports, and recommend improvements informed by coach and Member Association feedback.
- Oversee coach applications, eligibility checks, licence issuance, digital credentials, verification, renewals and customer enquiries
- Support qualification pathways based on BWF certification, Shuttle Time and recognised domestic coach-education equivalence, including transition arrangements for existing national-level coaches
- Implement accessible renewal processes built around proportionate CPD, updated policy acceptance and safeguarding/integrity requirements, while keeping webinars, conferences and mentoring optional
- Establish clear coach-support procedures, reliable records, transparent member information and effective resolution of licensing issues
- Administer the proposed annual allocation of three free licence vouchers per Member Association, subject to final approval, and monitor nomination, redemption and country-level participation.
- Work with the BWF education team to coordinate a rolling 12-month programme of CPD opportunities, webinars, online learning, technical resources and relevant workshops
- Support a global coach community of practice and voluntary mentoring opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange and career development
- Coordinate core benefits such as recognised licensed status, digital credentials and licence verification, and plan additional profiles, directories and education discounts when approved and ready
- Gather coach feedback through surveys and engagement measures, and adjust services to improve satisfaction, accessibility and retention
- Explore future services with relevant BWF teams, recognising that match archives and second-screen data remain conditional on rights, permissions, feasibility and separate commercial arrangements.
- Build effective relationships with Member Associations, Continental Confederations and coach-education stakeholders to support programme adoption across diverse markets
- Coordinate MA engagement on qualification equivalence, eligible-coach records, coach development pathways and national promotion of the Coach Licence
- Provide practical support and guidance to MAs on eligibility, licences, renewals, vouchers and local coach communication
- Promote equitable access and participation, taking account of different coaching levels, regional affordability, language and digital accessibility.
- Act as the operational business owner for the coach-facing service, defining user needs and testing workflows for applications, renewals, CPD records, profiles, digital credentials and member communications
- Work with Digital & Technology on the Coach Portal, BWF website and directory, CRM, payment functionality and integration with the wider BWF digital ecosystem
- Maintain accurate, secure and appropriately governed coach data covering qualifications, licences, CPD, location, engagement and communication preferences
- Use CRM reporting and programme analytics to understand uptake, conversion, engagement and retention, and to inform ongoing service improvements
- Ensure digital services are accessible, user-friendly and supported by clear administrative processes, privacy controls and appropriate technical escalation.
- Work with Communications to develop the programme value proposition, promotional materials, launch communications and sustained coach-engagement campaigns
- Support awareness and recruitment through BWF, Member Associations, Continental Confederations, education providers and relevant events
- Contribute to testing differentiated licence tiers, regional affordability and promotional incentives, ensuring advertised benefits match confirmed delivery capacity
- Work with Commercial and other BWF teams to identify suitable future partner benefits and service enhancements, subject to approval.
- Prepare and manage the approved programme operating budget, working with Finance on forecasts, expenditure, procurement and cost-of-service monitoring
- Track licence sales, renewals, payment performance and programme costs, and assess financial sustainability against agreed participation scenarios
- Support the approved treatment and reporting of Member Association vouchers and other value-in-kind arrangements in consultation with Finance
- Ensure licence revenue and programme expenditure follow BWF financial policies and normal budget approvals, noting that licence income is not automatically ring-fenced for reinvestment.
- Ensure operating procedures reflect applicable BWF policies, the Coach Code of Conduct, safeguarding, integrity requirements and relevant legal obligations
- Maintain appropriate controls for data protection, confidentiality, eligibility decisions, complaints, payment administration and programme risk
- Ensure the licence is not presented as granting tournament coach accreditation or access, with any future accreditation link subject to a separate approved policy
- Identify and escalate material delivery, contractual, commercial, safeguarding and reputational risks through the appropriate BWF channels.
- Develop a validated baseline of eligible active coaches and recommend numerical participation targets by licence tier, country, region and implementation year
- Maintain performance reporting on active licences, conversion, renewals, CPD uptake, coach satisfaction, digital engagement, equivalent qualifications, voucher use and financial results
- Prepare regular management updates and contribute to the annual Council assessment of programme effectiveness and country-level coverage
- Use evidence, coach feedback and financial results to recommend improvements and the appropriate timing of additional benefits or programme expansion.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional qualification in sports management, business administration, education, programme management or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience managing a membership, licensing, professional development, education or comparable multi-stakeholder programme.
- Proven ability to establish operational processes, coordinate projects, manage competing deadlines and deliver a consistent customer/member experience.
- Experience working with digital platforms, CRM systems, member data and performance reporting, in collaboration with technical teams.
- Ability to manage budgets, assess costs and participation, and prepare clear financial and operational reports.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and experience working across teams and different organisational or cultural environments.
- Excellent written and verbal English, with strong planning, communication and problem-solving skills.

- Coach- and customer-centred service design.
- Cross-functional project and stakeholder management.
- Digital service and CRM literacy.
- Data analysis, evaluation and reporting.
- Financial and resource management.
- Clear communication and international engagement.
- Judgement, risk awareness and governance.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in badminton, international sport, national federations or coach-education programmes.
- Understanding of coaching certification, continuing professional development and recognition of national coaching qualifications.
- Experience establishing or scaling a subscription, member-benefits or digitally enabled professional community programme.
- Knowledge of online learning, digital credentials, payment systems and digital marketing or retention initiatives.
- Additional language skills and experience engaging international Member Associations or Continental Confederations.
