Senior Software Engineer

This role sits within the CNN Engagement Web team at a next-generation global media and entertainment company. The engineer drives technical initiatives at the intersection of news publishing workflows, A/B experimentation and data-informed product decisions, shaping architecture and implementation in partnership with engineers, product managers and designers across multiple teams. The position contributes end-to-end, from technical planning and design through development, code reviews and deployment, while raising the bar on engineering excellence and best practices.

• Mentor and develop junior engineers through hands-on guidance, code reviews and training initiatives
• Design and implement infrastructure and validation systems for data models within simulation platforms and broader application ecosystems
• Communicate proactively on progress, risks and blockers to ensure alignment and strong stakeholder relationships
• Contribute actively to Agile/Scrum ceremonies while providing technical leadership and guidance
• Build and scale applications and infrastructure supporting CNN use cases and evolving product needs
• Drive technical initiatives at the intersection of news publishing workflows, A/B experimentation and data-informed product decisions
• Shape architecture and implementation in partnership with engineers, product managers and designers across multiple teams
• Contribute end-to-end from technical planning and design to development, code reviews and deployment
• Raise the bar on engineering excellence and best practices

• BS or MS in Computer Science or a related field
• 6+ years of experience with modern JavaScript (ES6+)
• 4+ years of full-stack development experience with Node.js and client-server applications
• Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms
• Hands-on experience with system design and architecture, including designing scalable end-to-end solutions across frontend, backend, APIs, databases and distributed systems
• Proven technical leadership experience, including driving decisions and mentoring engineers
• Hands-on experience with AWS services such as IAM, VPC, EC2, S3, EKS, Lambda and Route53
• Experience with data storage technologies, including SQL and/or NoSQL databases
• Familiarity with CI/CD and infrastructure tools such as Git, Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker and CloudFormation
• Experience using AI tools to improve development, code review and engineering workflows while balancing speed, quality and bottlenecks
• Experience in debugging and problem-solving
• Experience with A/B testing, analytics or experimentation tooling
• Knowledge of best practices for improving site performance, with 3+ years of hands-on experience applying them in production environments
• Experience working in Agile software development environments using tools such as JIRA, GitHub and Confluence

• Python, Go or Rust experience
