Job description
About the Role
This role sits within the Sport Signage group, which specialises in racetrack and sports-event signage and offers end-to-end services from creative design and production to logistics, installation and software solutions. The role develops the technical information required to turn creative and spatial concepts into buildable, installable and costable event solutions. It reports to the Head of Design and has strong functional interfaces with Procurement/Estimating and Operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop concepts into practical technical drawings and details suitable for fabrication, build and installation, clarifying dimensions, interfaces, fixing concepts, assembly sequence and material information, and identifying technical gaps or contradictions before release.
- Produce accurate, legible drawings using agreed standards and templates, maintaining drawing numbers, revision status, issue dates and clear file organisation while controlling superseded information and keeping current information accessible.
- Review designs for practical build, transport, installation, dismantling and reuse considerations, support the development of practical methodologies with Operations and workstream leads, and raise concerns where design intent creates avoidable risk, complexity or cost.
- Provide technical information that helps Estimating understand materials, quantities, labour drivers, plant and methodology, and support Procurement with specifications, dimensions and technical clarification for supplier enquiries without setting commercial rates, margins or final pricing.
- Work with Operations Managers, Installation Managers and Off-Track Build Leads to resolve technical questions before and during events, support site-driven clarifications or revisions while maintaining controlled approval and revision processes
- And capture field feedback for future drawing improvements.
- Work closely with graphic, 3D/spatial and motion colleagues where technical delivery affects design output, protect design intent while identifying practical constraints, and escalate unresolved trade-offs to the Head of Design.
- Check dimensions, references, interfaces and completeness before issue, use peer or senior review for higher-risk or complex technical information as defined by the Head of Design, and correct drawing errors promptly and communicate revisions to affected teams.
- Support surveys, measurements and verification where required for technically sensitive work, clearly distinguish verified dimensions from assumptions, and identify information requiring confirmation.
- Develop reusable technical details, templates and lessons where appropriate, and support more consistent methods across repeated F1 scopes without assuming every venue is identical.
- Review technical errors, rework, installation feedback and supplier issues, and improve standards, drawing content and handovers based on recurring lessons.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Professional CAD/technical design experience in signage, events, fabrication, temporary structures, interiors/exhibitions or a comparable environment.
- Strong 2D technical drawing capability.
- Practical understanding of materials, fabrication, assembly and installation.
- Experience producing information for both workshop/supplier and site teams.
- CAD and technical drawing.
- Dimensioning, detailing and revision control.
- Buildability and installation methodology.
- Materials/fabrication awareness.
- Clear technical communication.
- Problem solving and cross-functional working.
Preferred Skills
- Relevant 3D CAD capability is advantageous.
- Motorsport/event experience is advantageous.
Workplace
- Can be based in either the Amberg, Germany or Orpington, London office.
- Hybrid working: 3 days in the office.
- International event/site travel as required.
