Job description
About the Role
This role drives organic fan acquisition, search and AI discovery (SEO and GEO), and long-term audience retention across web, app, and audio ecosystems. It is designed for an ambitious leader who pairs journalistic maturity with an appetite for innovation, setting editorial direction while building next-generation search and discovery capability. The position leads Formula E's editorial function, line-managing an Editorial Executive and acting as an internal centre of excellence for search, audience intent, and LLM behaviour across PR, Brand, Social, and Marketing teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Define the tone of voice and journalistic standards across web and app platforms, translating complex technical topics, search intelligence, and analytics into compelling stories for racing fans and digital-first newcomers.
- Architect Formula E's organic discovery strategy, leading traditional technical SEO alongside Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) across emerging AI search platforms and LLM answer engines.
- Take full accountability for editorial analytics, tracking engagement time, scroll depth, organic click-throughs, and LLM citation frequency (AI share of voice) to drive ticket conversion, app downloads, and CRM capture.
- Serve as the internal centre of excellence for search, audience intent, and LLM behaviour, supplying real-time search intelligence to PR, Brand, Social, and Marketing teams.
- Oversee Formula E's podcast network, develop high-value deep-read features, and package editorial assets for third-party media partnerships, guest columns, and external syndication.
- Implement disciplined publishing processes, style guides, and fast-turnaround workflows to ensure digital platforms remain the definitive, fastest-moving source for Formula E news.
- Line-manage, mentor, and elevate the Editorial Executive, establishing clear development roadmaps and fostering a high-performance culture anchored in accountability and creative pride.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Significant progressive experience heading digital editorial desks, publishing platforms, or digital content strategies within sports, live entertainment, major media publishers, or global culture brands.
- Proven expertise in cutting-edge search strategies, going beyond standard keywords to include semantic search, LLM answer-engine optimisation (GEO), site taxonomy architecture, and technical audits.
- High analytical comfort with a track record of translating data into actionable editorial strategies that increase dwell time, organic traffic, and ticket discovery.
- A structured operator who thrives on clear workflows and fast turnarounds without compromising tone, accuracy, or journalistic standards.
- Ability to view editorial as an engine powering the wider commercial ecosystem, driving PR pitches, social deep-links, app traffic, and commercial campaigns.
- A mature people manager with a proven track record of coaching junior talent, driving team morale, and fostering a growth mindset.
Workplace
- Hybrid role, with three days a week required in the Hammersmith, London office.
Benefits & Perks
- 25 days' annual leave, birthday day off, and wellbeing leave
- Opportunity to extend your stay if travelling for a race event
- Health Cash Plan and access to the Aviva Digital Workplace app
- Enhanced parental leave
- Flexible bank holidays
- Paid volunteer and carer's leave
