Senior Software Engineer - tvOS

Is a senior individual contributor within the CNN Connected TV Engineering team, focused on iOS and tvOS development. The post-holder will work with a high level of autonomy, take ownership of complex technical challenges, and help shape the team's technical direction. They will support Principal Engineers and Architects in defining and implementing the technology strategy while providing guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers.

• Deliver high-quality, customer-facing features across CNN's tvOS applications within a collaborative engineering team.
• Take ownership of complex technical work, ensuring features are delivered effectively and meet engineering and quality standards.
• Contribute to sprint planning and help prioritise the delivery of new features, architectural improvements and bug fixes.
• Contribute to the technical strategy, architecture and engineering best practices for CNN's Connected TV applications, with a focus on Apple TV and the wider Apple ecosystem, and help guide decisions on tools, technologies, testing automation and CI/CD practices.
• Partner closely with Product, Design and Delivery leaders to translate product initiatives into scalable technical solutions and support operational execution.
• Document technical contributions clearly, help evolve the team's engineering standards and best practices, and recommend technical developments and software to enhance the app or developer experience.
• Lead key initiatives, contribute to the architecture of a high-performance streaming application, and collaborate with engineers across multiple locations to deliver critical projects.
• Mentor and coach less experienced engineers, providing guidance on design, coding and operational best practices.
• Rotate follow-the-sun support with other team members to monitor and debug critical production issues.
• Support Principal Engineers and Architects in defining and implementing the technology strategy.

• 5+ years of programming experience using Swift or other similar language.
• Experience building consumer apps.
• Knowledge of UIKit.
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• Experience building dynamic customer-facing apps that use RESTful APIs to operate.
• Hands-on expertise in disparate technologies, typically ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end systems and all points in between.
• Experience with large-scale application architecture, design, scalability, testability, implementation, and performance tuning.
• Experience in modern DevOps/SRE practices such as CI/CD, performance monitoring and incident management.
• Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis.
• Excellent communication skills, working with multiple stakeholders (internal and external partners) with different goals, objectives, and aspirations.
• Effective communication and strong negotiation skills.
• Experience with key design and architectural patterns such as MVVM, MVP and SOLID principles.
• Experience with Test Driven Development and associated frameworks.
• Strong understanding of iOS and tvOS development, together with extensive experience of test-driven development.
• Confidence using industry-standard software development tools and practices, including IDEs, build and continuous integration systems, source control and code review tools.

• Knowledge of or previous experience with VOD, including experience working with video playback on iOS/tvOS apps.
• Knowledge of SwiftUI.
