The role involves designing solutions from the ground up, troubleshooting at network and Linux operating system levels, and collaborating across teams with varying technical capabilities. The engineer will partner with the Operations Development Director and Technical Leadership to estimate, plan, and implement projects, with a focus on large-scale systems, uptime, predictability, and automation that reduces manual effort.
Key Responsibilities

- Partner with the Operations Development Director and Technical Leadership to estimate, plan, and implement projects while delivering exceptional results.
- Participate in sprint planning, conduct regular one-on-one meetings, contribute to engineer skill development reviews and goal setting, and mentor engineers in technical design and advanced troubleshooting methodologies.
- Oversee the review and approval of internal and partner technical plans, technical briefs, and work plans.
- Support always-on gaming server infrastructure and provide on-call support for feature launches, live events, and emergency escalations.
- Resolve complex deployment, connectivity, performance, and availability issues within production and live services environments.
- Lead the development of productivity-enhancing tools and evaluate new technologies to improve team efficiency and platform capabilities.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and runbooks for live support.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Six or more years of relevant experience with public cloud services, with a primary emphasis on AWS and EKS.
- Proven track record in the design, implementation, and operational support of critical, always-on cloud systems.
- Expertise in Kubernetes (EKS), Helm, and Docker to manage and scale containerised workloads.
- Experience developing automated solutions using Python, Java, Groovy, or C++.
- Proficiency with configuration management tools such as Terraform and/or Ansible.
- Practical knowledge of monitoring systems such as Prometheus and Grafana.
- Practical knowledge of pipeline automation platforms including Jenkins, GitLab, Bitbucket, or GitHub pipelines.
- Demonstrated expertise in cloud security best practices, Linux server security, and cloud networking, including load balancers, DNS, subnetting, route tables, NAT, and firewalls.
- Working knowledge of database concepts, including RDBMS and NoSQL, with specific experience managing and optimising Database-as-a-Service offerings; MongoDB or Dynamo also counts.
- Passion for learning new technologies, exploring emerging DevOps practices, and applying new skills to improve automation, infrastructure reliability, and platform capabilities.
- Strong passion for technology and deep experience designing, deploying, and operating solutions in a public cloud environment that integrates with corporate backend infrastructure and services.
- Demonstrated success working with large-scale systems, prioritising competing initiatives, and maintaining a strong focus on uptime and predictability.
- Passion for building automation that reduces manual effort.
