Job description
About the Role
This role is responsible for the strategic management of broadcast service providers and the delivery of new initiatives, technical changes and solution evaluations across the WBD APAC region. While Broadcast Operations owns business-as-usual execution, the position owns the commercial, contractual and transformation layer, managing the regional supplier portfolio, negotiating contracts, leading change requests and running the full RFI/RFP lifecycle for new technical solutions such as IP-based contribution and distribution, cloud playout and content delivery alternatives. It acts as the primary technical-commercial interface between WBD and the regional broadcast and media service-provider ecosystem, ensuring contracted services deliver against business and operational expectations and that new initiatives are delivered on time, on budget and to specification.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the relationship lifecycle for regional broadcast service providers, including playout, satellite teleport, fibre, compression, encryption, media services and IP distribution partners, and build strong working relationships with senior counterparts at key providers across the APAC region.
- Lead service-performance governance covering SLAs, KPIs, monthly and quarterly business reviews, performance improvement plans and dispute resolution.
- Lead commercial negotiations for new contracts, renewals, statements of work and change requests, partnering with Procurement, Legal and Finance to close agreements that meet business and technical requirements.
- Track contract obligations, renewal dates, pricing benchmarks and total cost of ownership across the supplier portfolio, identifying cost optimisation and consolidation opportunities.
- Manage the change request process end-to-end, covering scoping, pricing validation, technical sign-off, approval workflow and delivery hand-off to business-as-usual.
- Run the full RFI/RFP process for new services and solutions, defining business and technical requirements with Engineering, Operations and business stakeholders, building vendor long-lists and shortlist criteria, authoring and issuing the RFI/RFP
- Managing Q&A clarification cycles and coordinating vendor presentations, demos and proof-of-concept activities.
- Establish evaluation frameworks covering technical, commercial, operational and risk criteria, run scoring with cross-functional evaluation panels, lead commercial clarification and final negotiation, produce vendor recommendation papers and business cases for senior leadership approval
- And coordinate contract execution with Procurement and Legal to ensure a clean hand-off to delivery.
- Partner with Engineering and the broader team to identify, evaluate and recommend new technical solutions such as IP distribution alternatives (SRT, Zixi, managed media networks, public-cloud transport), cloud playout and signal-acquisition options, and build business cases that quantify cost, risk
- Operational impact and strategic fit for senior stakeholders.
- Plan and deliver service-delivery and transformation initiatives end-to-end, owning scope, schedule, budget, risks, dependencies, stakeholder communication and benefits realisation, and coordinating cross-functional delivery across Engineering, Operations, Programming, Affiliate, Procurement
- Legal and external partners.
- Drive disciplined transition-to-BAU hand-offs to the Broadcast Operations team, including documentation, training, run-books and acceptance criteria.
- Act as the primary technical-commercial point of contact for regional service partners and internal business stakeholders, providing regular status, risk and financial reporting to leadership and escalating clearly and early.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder-management skills across technical, commercial and executive audiences.
- Strong commercial acumen with proven contract negotiation and supplier-management experience with broadcast or telecom suppliers.
- Established working relationships with broadcast, media or telecom service providers in the APAC region, or demonstrated ability to build them quickly.
- Strong project or programme management discipline, with the ability to deliver multiple concurrent initiatives on time and on budget.
- Experience operating as a project manager for all delivery and transformation initiatives, owning scope, schedule, budget, the RAID (risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies) log and governance reporting to senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience running structured RFI/RFP and vendor-evaluation processes from requirements through to award.
- Ability to scope technical requirements, evaluate options and produce clear, decision-ready recommendations and business cases.
- Ability to work with stakeholders based across different locations and time zones.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision, make commercial and delivery decisions, identify opportunities and initiate projects.
- Strong skills and experience in generating quality documentation, both written and visual drawings (Visio, PowerPoint), and able to work with MS Office, Project and Visio.
- Strong analytical and critical-assessment skills, with attention to commercial and contractual detail.
- Degree in Broadcast Engineering, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, IT, Business or a related discipline, or other appropriate tertiary-level education.
- Minimum 10 years' background in broadcast or media technology, with significant experience in service delivery, vendor management or technical project management.
- Proven experience leading commercial negotiations and end-to-end RFI/RFP processes with broadcast or telecom service providers.
- Strong understanding of broadcast distribution and contribution technologies, including satellite, fibre, IP transport (SRT, RIST, Zixi, SMPTE 2110), CDN and content delivery for linear and OTT.
Preferred Skills
- Project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2 or Agile/Scrum) or equivalent practical experience.
