Job description
About the Role
FanDuel is seeking a Basketball Pricing Analyst (Sports Trader) to join its Trading Team, helping to shape the odds and betting markets that customers engage with. The role offers hands-on training in how sports betting works, how models and data are used to manage prices, and how news and customer behaviour inform pricing. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced Traders, developing the confidence and expertise to price markets independently and manage risk over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Learn to set and manage prices on basketball games, player stats and futures markets, from pre-game to live in-play odds, using in-house tools and models.
- Monitor real-time news, stats and industry pricing to help guide trading decisions.
- Trade live games in real time, making quick adjustments to pricing based on game flow, key events and customer behaviour.
- Collaborate with other Traders and work cross-functionally with teams within the Risk & Trading department and across the wider FanDuel business.
- Help brainstorm new products and ways to improve the customer experience, with consideration for how fans engage with the game.
- Assist the team with live betting during regular late shifts.
- Undertake hands-on training in sports betting, pricing models and data.
- Support other duties as required in line with evolving business needs and individual preferences.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- A deep passion for NBA or WNBA.
- A bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience; recent or soon-to-be graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Strong comfort with numbers, odds and probability, and quick mental maths skills.
- An understanding of how odds relate to probability and how betting markets work; candidates do not need to bet themselves.
- Proficiency with Excel.
- Experience with AI tooling.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, plus the curiosity to research and stay ahead of news and trends.
- Comfortable making decisions under pressure while staying responsive to rapidly changing information.
- Ability to work outside typical business hours, including nights and weekends; Traders work roughly 50-70 weekend shifts per year, never more than 5 days per week.
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and to obtain a DGE licence for trading activities.
Preferred Skills
- A passion for more than one league, such as both NBA and WNBA, is a plus.
Workplace
- Hybrid position with office presence required in Jersey City, NJ.
- Predominantly in-office to support hands-on training and core Trading tasks.
- Open-plan, hot-desk office environment with multiple monitors at each station, TVs and constant noise.
- Regular late shifts, typically 2:30pm–10:30pm ET.
- Weekend work is required.
Benefits & Perks
- An array of health plans to choose from, some as low as $0 per paycheck, including medical, vision and dental insurance.
- Programs for fertility and family planning, mental health support and fitness benefits.
- Generous paid time off (PTO and sick leave), plus paid personal time off and 14 paid company holidays.
- Annual bonus and long-term incentive opportunities based on performance, including cash bonuses and stock program participation.
- 401k with up to a 5% match.
- Life insurance and disability insurance.
- Commuter benefits and pet insurance.
- Paid sick time in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws.
- Benefits differ across location, role and level.
