In partnership with site and operations leadership, Facilities, HR, Legal, and other relevant functions, the HSE Manager translates regulatory and company requirements into practical controls, governance, training, and performance measures.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation, governance, and continuous improvement of HSE programs across assigned locations and operations, ensuring alignment with adidas policies and applicable legal requirements.
- Translate federal, state, and local HSE requirements into scalable standards, written programs, operating procedures, tools, and controls that can be consistently applied across a multi-site environment.
- Own occupational health and safety compliance for assigned locations, including requirements administered by federal OSHA, applicable OSHA-approved State Plans, and other federal, state, or local authorities having jurisdiction.
- Responsibilities include applicability assessments, required written programs, regulatory postings, recordkeeping and reporting obligations, and timely implementation of regulatory changes.
- Oversee OSHA injury and illness recordkeeping and reporting, including case determinations, OSHA 300, 301, and 300A records, annual posting, electronic submissions where required, and routine data-quality reviews in partnership with HR, Legal, and Workers' Compensation stakeholders.
- Serve as the primary HSE contact for regulatory inquiries, inspections, notices, citations, and abatement activity involving applicable federal, state, and local occupational safety, environmental, fire and life-safety, public health, emergency-management, and other authorities having jurisdiction; coordinate site response, document production, corrective actions, and communications with Legal and business leadership.
- Develop, maintain, and verify execution of applicable occupational health and safety programs and controls, including, without limitation, hazard communication, personal protective equipment, ergonomics, walking-working surfaces, electrical safety, contractor safety, indoor air quality, heat illness prevention, wildfire-smoke response, workplace violence prevention, and exposure-response protocols, as required by federal, state, or local law and company standards.
- Maintain legal compliance registers; monitor federal, state, and local regulatory developments; coordinate required permits, plans, filings, fees, and reports; and verify compliance with occupational health, safety, environmental, fire and life-safety, hazardous-materials, waste, air, water, spill-prevention, and emergency-planning obligations administered by applicable agencies having jurisdiction.
- Lead or oversee HSE risk assessments, inspections, and internal audits covering facilities, work activities, equipment, contractors, projects, events, and operational processes.
- Define corrective and preventive actions, assign accountability, monitor timely closure, verify effectiveness, and escalate material HSE risks that exceed established tolerances.
- Lead incident notification, investigation, root-cause analysis, corrective-action tracking, and organizational learning for occupational injuries, illnesses, environmental events, and near misses.
- Partner with HR, Legal, insurers, brokers, and third-party administrators on Workers' Compensation case review, documentation, trend analysis, return-to-work coordination, and risk-reduction actions.
- Develop and deliver role-based HSE training, communications, and awareness programs for employees, managers, and relevant contractors; assess completion and effectiveness.
- Support emergency preparedness, evacuation, first response, fire prevention, and crisis-management arrangements, including exercises and follow-up actions for assigned locations.
- Partner with Facilities and operational teams to identify environmental aspects and impacts and implement controls for waste, hazardous materials, spill prevention and response, and applicable air, water, and chemical requirements.
- Establish and monitor HSE objectives, leading and lagging indicators, audit results, incident trends, and action plans; provide clear risk insights and recommendations to business and site leadership.
- Provide HSE input for new locations, construction and renovation projects, equipment installations, events, and operational changes to ensure risks are assessed and controls are in place before launch or implementation.
- Manage HSE vendors and consultants, including scope definition, procurement support, budget oversight, performance monitoring, and quality assurance.
- Align audit methods, standards, and best practices with regional, global, and local HSE stakeholders while adapting execution to business needs and regulatory requirements.
- Manage, coach, and develop direct reports; set clear priorities and performance expectations; allocate work based on risk, business priorities, complexity, and capability.
- Advise business and local leadership on occupational health, safety, and environmental responsibilities in accordance with applicable laws, adidas policies, and IMS Policy Annexes.
- The federal, state, and local occupational safety, environmental, fire and life-safety, public-health, emergency-management, and other regulatory responsibilities identified in this job description are illustrative and not exhaustive; the role is accountable for other duties and compliance obligations that apply to assigned locations, activities, or emerging regulatory requirements.
