Senior Data Product Manager
Mid Level
New York, United States

Job description
About the Role
FanDuel is seeking a Senior Product Manager to own Core Data Infrastructure (CDI) within its centralised Data Products team. CDI is the foundational layer that powers every data product at FanDuel, spanning the Databricks lakehouse platform, workflow orchestration, self-service data tooling, and the governance and cost discipline that keep it trustworthy and efficient. The role sets product direction across four engineering verticals — Data Tooling, Databricks Platform, Data Platform Customer Success, and Data Security — working daily with senior engineering leadership to move CDI from an engineering-led backlog to a product-led roadmap with clear priorities, defensible metrics and measurable adoption.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the CDI product roadmap end to end across the Databricks lakehouse platform, Airflow orchestration and Stargate, the self-service data access and provisioning tool.
- Translate a large technical backlog into a focused, prioritised roadmap.
- Partner day-to-day with engineering leadership across CDI's four verticals (Data Tooling, Databricks Platform, Data Platform Customer Success and Data Security) to move planning from engineering-led to product-led.
- Apply clear decision ownership (DACI) and defensible, dashboard-backed metrics to planning.
- Drive platform cost governance and FinOps discipline, owning tooling such as the internal Cost Estimator and advancing cost estimates toward a required gate before new infrastructure is provisioned.
- Own data governance, security and compliance commitments tied to the platform, including SOX controls, attribute-based access control (ABAC) and Unity Catalog governance.
- Partner with Data Security and Legal/Compliance to keep the platform audit-ready.
- Lead the self-service vision for Stargate and internal data tooling (Orbit, Nexus), growing adoption, defining success metrics and reducing the reactive support-ticket load that consumes a large share of the team's capacity.
- Represent CDI in FanDuel's Unified Data Context and semantic layer strategy, partnering with peer Data Product Managers and Central AI to define scope, sequencing and hand-offs as the programme matures.
- Elicit requirements as clear problem statements, user stories and acceptance criteria, and run a disciplined backlog that engineering managers and stakeholders can plan against with confidence.
- Monitor platform health — reliability, data quality, blocked-work trends and adoption — and use that signal to continuously re-prioritise the roadmap.
- Play an active role in FanDuel's Product Management community, sharing best practice and helping raise the bar for product-led thinking across traditionally engineering-led teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Company as required to meet evolving business needs.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Product Manager or Product Owner shipping infrastructure, platform or developer-tooling products, ideally within a data or ML platform organisation.
- A proven track record of turning a large technical backlog into a focused, prioritised roadmap.
- Direct experience with modern lakehouse and orchestration technology such as Databricks, Apache Airflow (or equivalent) and cloud infrastructure, with AWS preferred, sufficient to earn credibility with senior platform engineers and make sound trade-off calls.
- Working knowledge of data governance and access-control models such as Unity Catalog, ABAC or comparable attribute- or role-based access frameworks.
- Comfort operating in a regulated, compliance-sensitive environment involving SOX and audit controls.
- Experience owning cost or FinOps workstreams for a data or cloud platform, including building the case for cost governance and driving adoption of cost-estimation or chargeback tooling.
- A product-led operating style: comfortable pushing back on engineering-led planning, applying frameworks such as DACI for decision clarity, and holding a hard line on a small number of priorities rather than a long tail of parallel work.
- Strong stakeholder management across a wide, technical partner group, including running requirements workshops, negotiating scope with engineering managers and communicating platform trade-offs to non-technical leadership.
- SQL proficiency for querying platform usage and cost data.
Preferred Skills
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Engineering, Business or a related discipline) or equivalent industry experience.
- A Master's degree is a plus.
- Familiarity with semantic layer, metrics-registry or data-catalog concepts is a strong plus.
- Knowledge of sports and/or experience working within a heavily regulated industry is a plus.
Workplace
- Hybrid working arrangement
Benefits & Perks
- Health plans to choose from, some as low as $0 per paycheck
- Medical, vision and dental insurance
- Life insurance and disability insurance
- Programmes for fertility and family planning
- Mental health support
- Fitness benefits
- Generous paid time off (PTO and sick leave)
- Paid personal time off and 14 paid company holidays
- Paid sick time in accordance with applicable state and federal laws
- Annual bonus and long-term incentive opportunities based on performance
- Short-term or long-term incentive compensation, including cash bonuses and stock programme participation
- 401k with up to a 5% match
