Key Responsibilities
- Manage, mentor, and grow a team of data analysts while modelling analytical rigour, evaluating statistical approaches, and contributing hands-on to ambiguous, high-stakes projects as a player-coach.
- Shift the team's mindset from reactive service analytics and dashboard maintenance to proactive strategic inquiry, focusing on the "why" behind performance metrics.

- Oversee product experimentation (A/B testing), causal inference, and behavioural and cohort modelling across digital destinations and app ecosystems, ensuring guardrails and success metrics are rigorously defined.
- Partner with upstream data and engineering teams to understand data pipelines, navigate complexity, and establish standardised, trusted metric definitions across the organisation.
- Integrate cutting-edge data tools and modern generative AI capabilities into daily workflows to streamline routine tasks, accelerate analysis, and increase overall team capacity.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to the company's values, journalistic independence, and the broader mission of The New York Times Company.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive experience in data analytics, product analytics, or applied quantitative roles delivering reporting, analysis, and strategic insight.
- 1–3+ years of experience formally managing, leading, or mentoring data scientists or analysts, with a track record of elevating analytical judgement in others.
- Expertise in SQL and experience working with large-scale relational databases or modern cloud data warehouses (e.g. Snowflake, BigQuery).
- Proficiency in Python or R for statistical modelling, data manipulation, and deeper quantitative analysis.
- Experience with modern BI and data visualisation tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Mode.
- Strong background in experimentation (A/B testing), causal inference, and cohort/retention modelling within a digital subscription or media environment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in a digital media or subscription-based business model.
- Familiarity with version control workflows (Git, GitHub, code reviews).
- Experience navigating upstream data complexity and working with high-volume, real-time event data.
- Passion for sports media and digital publishing.
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Applied Math, or a related field.
