About the Role
The Senior Manager, DC Engineering provides dedicated engineering expertise for the design, implementation and stabilisation of adidas Korea distribution centre solutions, translating business and operational requirements into technically robust, scalable and cost-effective solutions. The role provides independent validation of concepts proposed by 3PL partners, consultants and solution providers, ensuring that DC layouts, capacity assumptions, material flows, equipment and automation solutions are fit for purpose and aligned with adidas standards from concept design through operational handover. Sitting within Supply Chain & Sourcing, the position works across Market and Global functions and maintains key relationships with Korea SCM leadership, DC Operations, Global Distribution and Global Engineering, Global Network, Tech/IT, Procurement and Finance, 3PL providers and engineering consultants.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and technically validate distribution centre layouts, process flows, storage concepts and material movement solutions.
- Translate volume forecasts, inventory profiles and operational requirements into capacity, space and throughput requirements, and perform capacity, throughput and bottleneck analyses to recommend appropriate engineering solutions.
- Develop and review layouts, engineering drawings, technical specifications and solution documentation.
- Evaluate manual, semi-automated and automated concepts on the basis of operational requirements, scalability, safety and total cost.
- Provide independent technical assessment of concepts and solutions proposed by 3PL partners, consultants and vendors, challenging assumptions relating to capacity, productivity, operational flow, equipment selection and facility design with fact-based engineering analysis.
- Review proposed solutions against adidas operational requirements, engineering principles and applicable Global Distribution standards, identify design gaps and engineering risks, and drive their timely resolution with relevant stakeholders.
- Assess requirements and solution options for material handling equipment, warehouse automation and supporting technologies, and provide engineering input into equipment specifications, supplier evaluation and solution selection.
- Partner with Global Engineering, Technology, Procurement and external providers on technical design and implementation, and support testing, commissioning and operational acceptance of engineering and automation solutions.
- Provide engineering ownership throughout the project lifecycle from concept development and solution design through implementation, testing, go-live and stabilisation, ensuring engineering deliverables are completed in line with agreed scope, quality requirements and project milestones.
- Identify technical risks during implementation and coordinate mitigation with project, operational and external partner teams.
- Support facility, equipment and process testing, including operational readiness and end-to-end validation, and support ramp-up, hypercare and structured handover of engineering solutions to DC Operations.
- Monitor the technical performance of layouts, equipment and automation solutions against approved design criteria, and apply engineering analysis to improve equipment reliability, maintainability, system availability and technical bottleneck resolution
- Without assuming ownership of site Lean programmes or operational process improvement.
- Capture technical lessons from engineering projects and maintain reusable design criteria, equipment specifications, validation checklists and engineering standards for future DC investments.
- Provide engineering scenarios and technical feasibility assessments for network development, capacity expansion, facility constraints, equipment lifecycle and future DC investment decisions.
