Solution Architect

Sits within the Solution Architecture team within Business Applications Technology and focuses on shaping how business applications, platforms and technologies work together. From initial idea to implementation, the role connects business ambitions with technology possibilities. It supports the evolution of a global IT landscape by turning complex challenges into smart, scalable solutions.

• Translate business needs into end-to-end solution designs, defining the right components, technology choices, integration patterns and non-functional requirements.
• Assess how proposed solutions fit into the existing IT landscape and identify where new capabilities are needed.
• Apply architecture principles to ensure solutions remain aligned, consistent and maintainable.
• Identify risks, dependencies and trade-offs early to help teams make informed decisions, and document architectural choices and their rationale.
• Advise on architectural directions for incoming IT demands and work closely with business experts, platform teams and external partners.
• Support project and implementation teams throughout the delivery lifecycle, explain design options to stakeholders and contribute to vendor and RFI/RFP assessments.
• Contribute to improving shared technical services and platforms that enable business applications to run reliably and cost-effectively.
• Help build and extend integration and runtime capabilities and provide structured architectural guidance to the teams using them.
• Contribute to target architectures and cross-functional IT initiatives.
• Follow and further develop the internal Solution Architecture Methodology and ways of working, and promote reusable reference architectures, patterns and guidelines to share architectural knowledge across teams.

• University degree in Computer Science / similar study or equivalent practical experience.
• Fluent English skills.
• Around 5 years of professional experience in solution architecture, enterprise architecture or a senior technical role such as lead engineering.
• Proven track record of designing and delivering end-to-end solutions across enterprise technology environments.
• Solid understanding of cloud and enterprise application landscapes, including integration approaches such as APIs, messaging and data flows.
• Ability to assess security, scalability, resilience, performance, cost and operational readiness.
• Strong systems thinking and sound judgement when balancing business needs, delivery speed, complexity and risk.
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative, pragmatic approach to working with business and technology stakeholders, including the ability to constructively challenge assumptions and explain trade-offs.

• Fluent German skills are a plus.
• Experience with SAP or other major enterprise platforms is an advantage.
• Experience with architecture documentation, design reviews or vendor assessments is an advantage.
