About the Role
This Senior Data Engineer role supports Nike's Consumer Product and Innovation (CP&I) community by solving complex software engineering problems and building internal product tools. The role is part of the larger Global Technology organisation, reporting to the Engineering Director, and involves daily collaboration with a team of engineers, the Technical Product Manager, and Principal Engineers. The engineer will lead a team building modular, configurable, and API-first capabilities for modern web applications, while coordinating with other teams and coaching junior members.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading a team of engineers building tooling for the Consumer Product & Innovation team members
- Building modular, configurable and API-First capabilities consumed by modern web applications built with recent SPA frameworks
- Coordinating with other teams on organizational and technical goals
- Providing guidance and coaching for more junior team members
- Engaging with other Global Technology functions and teams on organizational and technical goals
- Working day-to-day with a team of engineers, the Technical Product Manager, and Principal Engineers on software projects to achieve Nike's business objectives
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Highly collaborative with peers
- Productive in a fast-paced development environment
- Depth of native cloud software engineering experience
- Experience working in a highly collaborative environment
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or similar field, or relevant professional experience in lieu of a degree
- 5+ years of hands-on industry data engineering experience
- Proficiency in SQL, Spark, Python
- Hands-on experience with Databricks, AWS, Snowflake
- Demonstrated strength in data modeling, ETL development, and data streaming
- Experience with AWS products including Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, S3
- Demonstrated expertise in Java with understanding of JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js
- Experience with React, Vue.js, or Angular for data visualization dashboards
- Demonstrated expertise in API development using REST/GraphQL APIs for data services
- Good understanding of microservices architecture and architectural design patterns
- Experience with CI/CD and DevOps responsibilities for deploying and supporting software in production
