Job description
About the Role
The Game Designer for Ultimate Team is responsible for designing engaging game modes and progression systems that elevate player excitement, measured by retention and engagement. The role reports to the Principal Designer and collaborates with product owners, engineers, animators, and other designers to shape the future of Ultimate Team. The designer sets a high bar for design quality, mentors peers and less experienced designers, and ensures every feature aligns with the Ultimate Team vision.
Key Responsibilities
- Pitch and design innovative game modes and player progression systems that deliver deep, engaging experiences, and convince leadership of the need for designs, both large and small.
- Use whatever tools are needed across disciplines to help sell and drive macro and micro experiences, making work exciting for others.
- Set the bar for excellence in game design and deliver player-first experiences with creativity, precision, and obsessive attention to detail.
- Advocate for players as the voice in the room and ensure partners understand how the work will impact them.
- Collaborate with design leadership and cross-functional teams to align on the overall vision for Ultimate Team and ensure designs support product strategy and franchise growth.
- Leverage market insights, player feedback, and data analytics to identify innovation opportunities in game modes and progression systems, and continuously iterate to optimise the player experience.
- Partner with production leadership to ensure feature prioritisation and scope align with development timelines and goals.
- Mentor and inspire peers and less experienced designers, ensuring features align with the Ultimate Team vision.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience designing AAA systems, whether for console, PC, board games, or mobile, and experience shipping complex game modes and player progression systems.
- A track record of taking full ownership of major design systems, from conceptualisation through to implementation, and delivering exceptional results.
- Proven experience working across multiple disciplines such as engineering, art, and production to deliver cohesive, high-quality gameplay experiences, with dedication to sourcing the best idea for players rather than defending one's own ideas.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex design concepts clearly and effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Extensive experience in one or more of the following spaces: large online multiplayer shooters, RPGs, open world games, co-op PvE games, user-generated gaming platforms, or narrative games.
Preferred Skills
- Football (soccer) fan or sports fan in general.
- Deep understanding of FUT.
- Loves CCGs, TCGs, or RPG systems.
- Understands competitive games.

- Extended health, dental, and vision coverage.
- Life insurance.
- Disability insurance.
- Retirement plan for regular full-time employees.
- Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and other incentive programmes.
- Location assistance is available for the right candidate.
