Undergraduate - Data & Analytics Intern

The 2027 NBA Summer Internship is a 10-week programme running from 7 June to 13 August 2027, giving participants the opportunity to learn about the business of basketball, develop critical career skills and contribute to meaningful projects across a range of departments in the NBA and its affiliate leagues (WNBA and G League). Selected interns support data collection and analysis in one of several areas, including content, media, fan engagement, digital products and basketball-related initiatives. Past interns have worked in departments such as Basketball Strategy & Growth, which covers data collection, analysis and technology for all on-court activities, and Data Strategy & Analytics, which captures, manages and analyses fan and business data to inform decision-making across the NBA and its affiliate leagues.

• Support data collection and analysis across areas such as content, media, fan engagement, digital products and basketball-related initiatives
• Coordinate with data engineers, data analysts and BI developers on end-to-end model development and deployment to the wider NBA business infrastructure
• Design statistical analysis and visualisations relating to league structure, rule changes, gameplay and improvements to the competition format
• Implement technologies to improve player health, game integrity and fan engagement across all NBA properties, including the NBA, WNBA, NBA G League and NBA 2K League
• Perform cross-departmental quantitative analyses of on-court activities and trends used to evaluate the NBA's core product
• Work with data governance managers to ensure NBA data meets all safety and privacy requirements
• Collaborate with digital content and reporting teams to assess NBA content performance across social and digital platforms and shape key strategic decisions
• Contribute to a cross-functional strategy and operations project in collaboration with the Basketball Technology & Innovation team
• Research potential applications of advanced tools and technologies to help expand technical and analytical offerings
• Update the CRM system with relevant sports tech-related news and contacts
• Publish and maintain customised interactive reports and dashboards using Tableau Server

• Enrolled in an undergraduate programme and entering senior year in the academic year following the internship
• Open to all majors, but typically best suited to individuals studying Business or Data Analytics, Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Sports or Technology Management, or Statistics
• Foundational mastery of AI technologies in driving project execution and achieving business objectives
• Excellent academic standing
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Leadership skills as demonstrated through relevant extracurricular or community activities

• Experience or coursework with SQL, Python or R
• Experience with Snowflake tools and DBT
• Knowledge of statistics and best practices in model development
• Exposure to or experience using Tableau Desktop, including calculations, visualisations and knowledge of the practices and techniques of dashboard development
• Skilled presenter and facilitator
• Strong project management skills
• Strong proficiency in drafting documents and creating presentations (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
• Demonstrated passion for the sports industry and the game of basketball
• High attention to detail, design and innovation
