The Rugby Football Union (RFU) is the national governing body for grassroots and professional rugby in England. Founded in 1871, the RFU is responsible for the development and regulation of the sport across the country, overseeing more than 2,000 autonomous rugby clubs. The RFU manages the England national rugby union teams, including the England Men's team (Senior and U20), the Red Roses (women's), and the England U20 Women's team. It also operates Twickenham Stadium, the iconic home of English rugby, and runs major competitions such as the Gallagher Premiership and the Premiership Women's Rugby. Beyond elite performance, the RFU is deeply committed to growing the game at all levels. Through programmes like T1 Rugby, Age Grade Rugby, and Rugby in Education, it supports participation, coaching, refereeing, and volunteering. The organisation also prioritises player welfare, diversity and inclusion, and sustainability across the community game.
