The Football Association [The FA] is the not-for-profit governing body of football in England. It is responsible for promoting and developing every level of the game, from grassroots through to the professional game, and generates significant revenue to support investment into English football each year.

The FA oversees England international teams across men's, women's, youth and disability football, as well as running the National League System and FA Competitions including the Emirates FA Cup, Barclays FA Women's Super League, FA Women's Championship, and Vitality Women's FA Cup, and the world-class facilities of Wembley Stadium and St. George's Park, all with a purpose to Unite the Game and Inspire the Nation.

To deliver against our goal we have reallocated resources and invested heavily in developing a team of exceptional people capable of creating winning England teams at our world-class training facilities at our National Football Centre, St. George's Park.

Role Description

We have a fantastic opportunity within our Women's Technical department, who are searching for a Women's Players Insights Lead. The purpose of the role is to develop meaningful insight to support the identification, selection and development of England players.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Drive the efficient and effective identification and tracking of talented England-eligible players.
  • Deploy and lead a team of talent reporters to develop meaningful player insight.
  • Lead player reviews, selection and grading processes, ensuring meaningful, insightful conversations about players take place and key insight and actions are recorded.
  • Build an understanding of players and game demands across the ages and phases to help ensure a connected player pathway.
  • Support coaches with robust and powerful player insight to help make selection and development decisions.
  • Produce and present compelling and insightful reports or projects to assist in the tracking and development of 'priority' England players.
  • Help undertake biannual analysis of the player pipeline to measure retention and churn and to identify critical depth issues.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of holistic player profiles, benchmarked against 'what it takes to win.'
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of data collection, storage and reporting processes to enable valid, consistent assessment of relevant player characteristics.
  • Contribute to the development and presentation of research and projects related to player insights, and support the implementation of research findings.
  • Be proactive in utilising established and emerging technologies.
  • Execute additional tasks as required in order to meet FA Group changing priorities.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing can be maintained.

What we are looking for?

Essential:

  • Applied understanding of the demands and skills needed for elite football performance,
  • Advanced data analysis skills, in particular the ability to seek, analyse and interpret data to answer football performance questions,
  • Ability to develop and utilise meaningful player insight to drive and enhance the management of talented players,
  • Ability to confidently facilitate meeting discussions and to communicate with a variety of audiences including coaches,
  • Ability to build and maintain effective and close working relationships with coaches, managers, analysts and camp and club staff,
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments; and to work to tight deadlines, managing several projects at once,
  • Attention to detail; brilliant administration skills,
  • Confident and efficient in learning to use new technologies,
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field of study or equivalent experience.

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate Qualification or Higher Degree in Sports and Exercise Science, or related disciplines,
  • Experience in building visualisations using Tableau,
  • Experience using Hudl Sportscode to develop player clips for performance discussions,
  • Applied understanding of age/stage-specific indicators of potential in elite sport pathways.

Please be aware that unless you are contractually homebased, your contract with The FA will specify a fixed location of either Wembley Stadium, St. George's Park or our Processing Centre.

We currently work within a hybrid working model whereby the expectation is to work from your contractual location for part of the week, and as and when required by the team. The remaining days can be worked remotely. We will continue to monitor this model and it may be adjusted in future if deemed necessary.
