Part-time (0.8, 4 days p/w)

Critical Mass is an ambitious 14-month long inclusive dance participation project that sits at the heart of the Games' cultural plans. Generously supported by the Spirit of 2012 (the 2012 Olympic legacy fund) the project will see 300 young people, from across the West Midlands, with and without disabilities, come together through a sustained process of dance and skills development workshops, before taking centre stage at a number of high-profile events during the 2022 programme, including the opening show of the arts festival, and the Games' Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Critical Mass will be a feat of partnership working between Birmingham 2022 and members of the region's Dance Development Leaders Group (DDLG) a network of more than 70 dance organisations and independent dance artists with a shared vision to see inclusive dance participation drive the strategic and artistic growth of the West Midlands' dance sector. The lead delivery partner for Critical Mass is DanceXchange, which will be directly supported and informed by Arts Connect, Birmingham Royal Ballet and consultants from within and outside the DDLG network.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Critical Mass project from the point of engagement through to completion, evaluation and establishing project legacy.
  • Working closely with the lead delivery partner, DanceXchange, oversee all aspects of the participatory activities, ensuring they are designed to the highest standards and meet the vision and principles outlined to the project's principle funder.
  • Work side by side with the Critical Mass Lead Artist to shape and support the artistic vision for the project; act as executive producer to any work created/co-created through the project.
  • Work closely with lead delivery partners to adopt a 'participant-centred' delivery model and ethos.
  • Ensure the partnership delivers on its contracted commitments with the OC, and according to the wider governance structure defined in the lead delivery partner contract.


Skills & Experience Required

Essential

  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Proven leadership skills; the ability to bring together a wide range of people.
  • Significant relevant industry experience in arts engagement and participation, either in a venue, festival or other cultural environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of best practice for disability inclusive and integrated participatory activities.
  • Experience of working closely with artists to shape and deliver an artistic vision.


Desirable

  • Proven experience of relevant Safeguarding procedures and practices for Children and Vulnerable Adults.Experience of leading dance participation projects.
  • Experience of working with disabled and/or vulnerable young people in community/arts settings.
  • Strong practical working knowledge of Arts Council England's Creative Case for Diversity.


We will consider a secondment for this job role.

Salary: £40,000-42,500 per annum, pro rata
