Programme overview
MSc Sport Business Management is a CIM recognised degree which builds upon your existing experience in equipping you for an exciting career in sport. Joining our course will enable you to:
- Acquire business knowledge about the ever-growing industry, gaining the contacts, skills and credentials that you need to make an impact in it;
- Gain a detailed understanding of the core aspects of sports business and finance;
- Work with world-class sports organisations on an industry-based project and undertake an optional 12 weeks of industry placement;
- Benefit from the experience of tutors with substantial industry, research and consultancy experience.
In 2018 MSc Sports Business Management was rated 1st in the UK and 4th in Europe by SportBusiness International global rankings.
Modules
You will study following modules on the course: financial skills for business decisions; global economics of sport; international sport event management; international sports marketing and the media; international sports strategy; managing people in sport organisations; researching sport management; sport business consultancy; research project (elective); work-based learning project (elective). You will have to choose between research project or work-based learning project to complete the degree.
Applied learning
You have the option to complete a 12-week work placement, where you receive support and advice from a placement mentor alongside a member of the academic staff. We use our network of local, regional, national and international employers to help secure you a challenging and fulfilling placement. Recent clients have included Formula One, Manchester City FC, the International Cricket Council, the Singapore Sports Council, Badminton England, UFC (Ultimate Fight Championship), Sheffield United FC and Sheffield Wednesday FC.
As part of your study, you will also be required to undertake an industry-based research project, in which you work with sport organisations to develop solutions to problems or explore potential market opportunities. With superb industry ties, as well as opportunities for work placements and research projects, this course offers ample opportunity for networking.
Entry requirements
Minimum of a low second class degree (2:2) in a sport-related or business and management-related subject OR Minimum of a low second class degree (2:2) in an unrelated subject, but with experience of working in sport or general business and management. We welcome enquiries from those who have substantial management experience but who do not have the normal entry requirements. We may invite you for an interview to discuss your particular background, experience and qualifications.
