Objective and Target Audience
The programme’s main objective is to produce first-class sports managers with both strategic and operational skills to manage sports organisations, events and venues in any economic environment. The course targets employees of National Olympic Committees, sports federations, clubs, marketing agencies and various sports industry businesses.
Course Structure
The course was developed in cooperation with acclaimed university professors and sport management practitioners from across the world and is based on the rich diversity of the Olympic legacy transformed into an original and innovative educational product.
Students study the following modules: Economics of Sport and the Olympics; Governance, Policy and the Olympic Movement; Research Paradigms in Sports Management; Business of Sport and the Olympics; Sports Marketing and Communications. The course comprises 39 weeks (3 semesters) and culminates in a graduate qualification paper (thesis).
The MSA curriculum utilizes both classical and innovative educational models, including traditional lectures and seminars, case studies, interactive classes, cascade training, master classes by sports celebrities and other teaching formats found in business schools.
The MSA has a strong focus on practice with students undertaking internships at the Sochi 2014 Olympic venues, the F1 Russian Grand Prix and other major sporting events in Russia and abroad as well as the offices of sports federations and companies. RIOU’s extensive network of partnerships with Olympic family organisations allows to create new international placements for MSA students.
Global education perspectives are expanded through tailored student exchange programmes implemented jointly with Paris-Sud University in France, Savonia University in Finland and Seebourg Castle University in Austria.
