IT Administrator and Business Application Manager (w/m/d)

In the implementing company of the Rhine Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games

Full-time / 40 hours per week / fixed-term contract until summer 2026

This position is part of the LOC's Technology & IT department. As a member of the Hardware & Infrastructure team, you will be responsible for the analysis, planning and implementation of hardware and software. You are the contact person for service providers, technical partners and employees for the provision, application and troubleshooting of all IT systems and thus contribute to the successful implementation of the event.

We would entrust you with the fulfilment of these tasks:

Responsibilities of the IT administrator:

  • Monitor and maintain networks and servers.
  • Upgrading, installing and configuring new hardware and software to meet business objectives.
  • Implementing security protocols and procedures to prevent potential threats.
  • Set up user accounts and implement access controls.
  • Perform diagnostic testing and troubleshooting procedures to optimise computer systems.
  • Documenting processes and backing up and archiving data.
  • Develop data retrieval and recovery procedures.
  • Design and implement efficient end-user feedback and error reporting systems.
  • Supervise and guide IT department staff and provide IT support.
  • Maintaining currency of progress and best practice in IT management.

Responsibilities of the Business Application Manager:

  • Manage a portfolio of applications and related projects.
  • Identify opportunities for application optimisation, redesign or process improvement - focusing on collaboration systems and internal tools.
  • Provide cross-application administrative support as required.
  • Work with business stakeholders, vendors and IT management to develop a strategic vision for new and supported applications and create system plans and business processes.
  • Address the various needs, concerns and expectations of stakeholders in planning and executing projects, meeting project requirements and creating project deliverables.
  • Balance competing project constraints including but not limited to scope, quality, schedule, budget, resources and risks to meet the needs of individual users/customers.
  • Build a strong technical culture around our business systems with a focus on technical excellence, rapid iteration, high security and smooth user experiences.
  • Manage outsourcing and software contracts for application maintenance; implement and monitor standards for scope management, financial management and Service Level Agreements (SLA), ensure compliance to mitigate risk, increase service/business impact and reduce costs.

It would be great if you have these skills & knowledge:

  • University of Applied Sciences degree in disciplines such as Computer Science, Business Information Systems or comparable degree.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in IT administration and/or as an application manager
  • Well-structured, conceptual and networked thinking. Distinct hands on mentality
  • Systematic and solution-oriented way of working
  • Sensitivity to the needs of the participants
  • Persuasiveness, assertiveness and organisational skills
  • A high degree of flexibility and an obliging manner
