Reporting to and working closely with the Deputy Events Director – Technical Events Management, the Head of Tournament Development is responsible for the day-to-day delivery and management of BWF Para badminton and AirBadminton events.

Responsibilities:

The Head of Tournament Development forms an important part of the Events Department and is responsible for:

1. Leading the delivery of Para badminton events and related technical areas:

• Lead the day-to-day delivery of the BWF Para badminton tournament structure, including the Para Badminton World Championships, World Circuit, and Continental Championships/Multi-sport Games, where applicable.

• Manage the Para badminton tournament delivery staff.

• Monitor and/or be on-site at selected tournaments to ensure they are delivered to quality standards.

• Provide guidance and support to the Para badminton Committee, Commission, Working Groups, and tournament-related areas, as necessary.

2. Development and implementation of the tournament and technical areas of a new AirBadminton competition structure:

• Work closely with the Development and Events departments to develop a new competition structure for AirBadminton, including a tournament management system, Laws and regulations, competition circuit, hosting guidelines, and a bid/application program.

• Ensure technical and administrative areas are integrated into existing departmental systems.

• Provide guidance and support to the AirBadminton Commission and related Committees (if applicable).

3. Lead the implementation of the tournament and draw management systems for badminton, Para badminton, and AirBadminton:

• Manage staff responsible for ensuring all tournament and draw management processes are implemented to the highest standards, including tournament sanctioning, BWF tournament calendar, entries, withdrawal and penalty processes, prize money processes, player transfer processes, seeding and draw processes, results management, and World Rankings.

• Effective communication with tournament host organisations and Member Associations.

• Support the development of all competition Laws, regulations, and policies, and ensure they are implemented as approved by Council.

• Ensure accurate information on tournament-related matters is provided to all relevant stakeholders.

4. Other areas of support (as needed):

• Working with Continental Confederations, Member Associations, BWF Event staff, and other BWF Departments, provide solutions for the development and sustainability of Grade 3 (Continental Circuit level) tournaments, including structural, regulatory, and commercial initiatives.

• Support the successful implementation of technical officials programs, including tournament assignments, educational resources, mentoring, workshops, appraisals, assessments, semi-professional workforces, and appropriate support to the related Commissions and Working Groups.

• Assist and support athlete advocacy, professional development, commercial and media-related activation, education, and other programs.

5. Other projects as assigned.

The successful candidate will have the following knowledge and experience:

• Sport event operations and management.

• Technical event delivery and commercialization.

• Tournament management.

• Personnel management (multi-cultural working environments will be an advantage).

• Badminton experience (event management at the highest levels will be a significant advantage).

• Technical official's experience—both in practice and managerial terms, would be an advantage.

• Athlete experience—both in practice and managerial terms, would be an advantage.

Overview - BWF:

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is the world governing body for the sport and has its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Badminton has been an Olympic Games sport since the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992 and a sport on the Paralympic program since 2014. The BWF has 198 Members responsible for regulating and developing badminton in their territory.

Continental Confederations administer, manage and develop the sport together with the national federations in their region. There are five Continental Confederations: - Badminton Africa, Badminton Asia, Badminton Europe, Badminton Oceania, and Badminton Pan America. The BWF, its Members and Continental Confederations work together in a coordinated approach to the development of the sport worldwide.

The BWF Council is responsible for providing policy and administrative guidance and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Federation between Annual General Meetings (AGMs). The Council is appointed by the AGM for a four-year term. The Secretary-General, responsible for day-to-day operations, is accountable to the Council.
