Are you a leader who is passionate about the growth of Women's Football?

In what is an exciting time for the Women's Professional Domestic Game in England, the 22/23 season has seen record attendances and viewership of Women's professional football in this country and the domestic leagues continue to grow at an unprecedented pace.

Since professionalisation in 2018, the Women's domestic leagues have seen incredible growth under the leadership of the Football Association. At this transformational time for the game, we are looking to develop an independent structure that will allow the leagues to transition to a NewCo over the course of the next season.

We are searching for a new Head of Marketing & Communications, who will be a key Senior Manager to develop and execute the Barclays Women's Super League (BWSL) and Barclays Women's Championship (BWC) and Continental Tyre League Cup brand marketing and communications strategy during a period of transformational growth in the Women's Professional Game.

The successful candidate will lead a team to execute marcomms plans for the upcoming season increasing the profile of the leagues domestically and internationally and help build a commercially sustainable sport.

We are searching for an individual who will oversee the communication strategy, incorporating both proactive and reactive for the BWSL & BWC and Conti Cup. With the ability to provide effective leadership for the Marketing and Communications team.

What will you be doing?

  • Development of the annual brand marketing strategy. Leading the planning & budgeting cycle.
  • Lead the creative strategy to engage fans and players. Ensure assets are 'on brand' and fit for purpose.
  • To support the creation and delivery of a modern integrated media strategy to maximise revenue and audience interest around the world.
  • To lead a proactive strategy aligned with the FA media relations and communications team.
  • Support the Communications Manager with reactive statements and crisis communications, including highly sensitive issues with strategic oversight from the FA media relations and communications team
  • Cross-functional campaign management of key fan growth catalyst moments.
  • Devise communications strategies that support and enable core business objectives.
  • Oversee the digital strategy for the BWSL & BWC.
  • Manage relevant agencies providing support to the BWSL & BWC and Conti Cup.
  • Liaise with all stakeholders in the Women's game, including all FA stakeholders and clubs.
  • Senior Marketing Team representative in meetings with internal personnel across Communications, Marketing, Operations, and Brand, briefing and debriefing messaging.
  • Update BWSL & BWC Board as required.
  • Champion world-class service delivery of league and club services; obtain customer feedback and make any improvements as necessary.
  • Lead, manage and coach the team effectively, ensuring all staff have regular personal development reviews, clear objectives and individual personal development plans.
  • Develop an annual business plan and budget for women's professional game marketing and communications, ensuring prioritisation and allocation of major tasks and that all risks are identified, and any mitigating actions put in place.
  • Execute additional tasks as required to meet FA Group changing priorities.

What are we looking for?

Essential for the role:

  • Proven experience developing brand strategies and translating strategies into successful multi-media marketing campaigns that drive revenue as well as build brand metrics.
  • Strong understanding of the Women's sporting landscape.
  • Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills.
  • Strong leadership skills & ability to manage cross-functional projects with key internal & external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and experience in executing campaigns across multiple owned, earned & paid marketing levers. To be well-versed in emerging & evolving digital platforms.
  • Experience in leading communications strategies, both proactive and reactive.
  • Experience in crisis management.
  • Experienced in budget management.

Beneficial to have:

  • Understanding of the football industry.
  • Educated to a degree level or equivalent.
  • Flexible approach to working hours.
  • Strong understanding of the media and relations within it.

Please note, this role is advertised as a fixed-term position for a period of up to one year.
