Role Overview
Reporting into the CEO, you will be responsible for leading and managing the finances of our growing business. This role will play an integral part in us achieving our ambitious plans to expand Global Sports further across the UK and internationally by bringing greater structure and rigour to our finance function.
The primary responsibility will be to assess and own our current financial processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement efficient systems to support our business growth during this critical phase.
What we are looking for
We are seeking a fully qualified, highly skilled and experienced Finance Manager to join our fast-growing SME. Someone that is capable of delivering against the key accountabilities and enjoys the cut and thrust of growing and developing an international scale-up business in Sport and Media.
Key Accountabilities
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions.
- Prepare financial statements, management reports, and presentations for senior management and external stakeholders.
- Produce monthly and annual accounts.
- Monitor credit control, cash flow, liquidity, and working capital to support business operations and growth.
- Develop and implement robust financial policies, procedures, and controls to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
- Assess and improve financial reporting processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, with a keen focus on providing commercial insights and actionable recommendations.
- Conduct regular commercial financial reviews to identify opportunities for cost savings, revenue enhancement, margin improvement and process optimization.
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles, industry regulations, and statutory requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support strategic decision-making and provide financial insights and recommendations.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounts assistant, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
Key Experience and Skills
- Fully qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Proven experience as a Finance Manager, Financial Controller, or similar senior role within an SME or start-up/scale-up.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is desirable
- Strong knowledge of financial management principles and regulations.
- Demonstrated experience in applying commercial intelligence techniques and tools to drive business insights and inform decision-making.
- Experience in conducting financial analysis with a commercial focus, including pricing strategies, product profitability, and customer segmentation.
- Expertise in financial reporting, including preparation of financial statements and management reports.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting software and financial management tools. We currently use XERO.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proactive, results-oriented mindset, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Experience in guiding and developing finance teams is highly desirable.
- Experience in multiple currency transactions
