New Zealand Water Polo (NZWP) is the national governing body for the sport of water polo in New Zealand. It is charged with the development and education of water polo players, officials, coaches and volunteers throughout New Zealand and with the conduct of competitions and championships for all levels of participation, interdependently with its Members and others.

New Zealand Water Polo's strategic direction is overseen by the NZWP Board. The Board has developed a strategic plan through to 2025 that guides the long time vision for the sport along with the day-to-day operational priorities.

Reporting to the Board, through the Chair, the CEO is the “public face” of the sport of water polo both domestically and internationally on behalf of the water polo community, Sport NZ, sponsors and the Board. The CEO provides leadership, direction and overall management of NZWP operations, activities and services in accordance with the strategic plan.

This is a significant people and commercial leadership role balancing a strong deep interest in the water polo community and advocating for it; representing, promoting and marketing NZWP professionally in the best commercial interests of the sport to ensure future growth.

NZWP has strong operational processes and systems in place, therefore the key focus areas of the incoming CEO will be stakeholder community engagement, high performance growth and athlete development.

The CEO will also champion the NZWP values of Inclusivity, Integrity, Excellence and Honour.

To be considered for this role you will need to be a dynamic and inspirational leader, with the ability to inspire a new culture whilst building lasting, positive and collaborative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to facilitate a journey of change.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in managing and growing like-sized businesses, budgets and resources ($2.5-$3.5 million turnover pre-covid), with the ability to manage the day-to-day business operations and balance the needs of competing priorities. Your commercial and financial acumen will be accompanied with a strategic, target setting, achievement mindset.

You may already have experience as a Chief Executive or be ready for the step into this leadership role. Regardless, you will require an understanding of the sport industry in New Zealand, with a passion for the many benefits sporting communities can provide.

A background in water polo is not required; however, you must be committed to providing strong foundations for the growth and success of the sport throughout New Zealand and on the world stage.

NOTE: only candidates with full NZ working rights will be considered for this position.
