
BWF Technical Events Manager
Full description
This role is required to manage and/or supports the following areas within the Events
Department – Technical Officials Programmes, including the effective implementation of all BWF Technical Officials programmes, and related development activities, including the existing volunteer and semi-professional referee and umpire programmes, educational resources development and production, and helping to build upon existing continental confederation and member association technical officials recruitment, education, training, and development initiatives.
Responsibilities
The Technical Events Manager is responsible for:
1. Management of Technical Officials Programmes:
• Manage the Semi-Professional Referee and Umpire Programmes.
• Manage the assignment processes for BWF Referees, Referee Assessors, Umpires, Umpire Assessors, Tournament Doctors, Classifiers, Technical Delegates, and Line
Judges.
• Manage the Continental Confederation Events Grants programme, including those for technical officials.
• Manage the development of Technical Official Educational Resources for Referees, Umpires, Line Judges, and Member Associations.
• Manage the development and delivery of directive/guidance materials for BWF Technical Officials, including draw management, player clothing, and role-specific instructional documents.
• Manage the development and delivery of content for the quarterly magazine for Technical Officials.
• Manage the development and delivery (where applicable) of Technical Officials training, instruction, and education at all levels, including national and continental, if required.
• Ensure the accuracy and efficiency of the extranet/one-window online system for Technical Officials administration.
• Support the Referee Assessment Panel, Umpire Assessment Panel, Technical Officials Commission, Tournament Doctor Commission, and other related Working Groups with meeting planning and implementation.
• Assist the Deputy Events Director – Technical Events Management in the budgeting process for Technical Officials.
• Assist the Deputy Events Director – Technical Events Management with other projects related to the development and implementation of Technical Officials, as per the BWF Strategic Plan for Technical Officials Development.
• Monitor and assist in the development of the entire Technical Officials development
pathway, including recruitment strategies.
• Assist the Deputy Events Director – Technical Events Management and other Events staff with the updating of Laws and regulations.
2. Support the team responsible for the effective implementation of tournament and draw management systems for badminton, Para badminton, and AirBadminton:
• Ensure all tournament and draw management processes are implemented to the highest standards, including tournament sanctioning, BWF tournament calendar, entries, withdrawal and penalty processes, prize money processes, player transfer processes, seeding and draw processes, results management, and World Rankings.
• Effective communication with tournament host organisations and Member Associations.
• Support the development of all competition Laws, regulations, and policies, and ensure they are implemented as approved by Council.

3. Other areas of support (as needed):
• Working with Continental Confederations, Member Associations, BWF Event staff, and other BWF Departments, provide solutions for the development and sustainability of Grade 3 (Continental Circuit level) tournaments, including structural, regulatory, and commercial initiatives.
• Athlete Services, including assistance and support to athlete advocacy, professional development, commercial and media-related activation, education, and other programmes.
4. Other projects as assigned.

The successful candidate will have the following knowledge and experience:
• Tournament management experience.
• Badminton experience (event management at the highest levels will be an advantage).
• Technical officials experience—both in practice and managerial terms, would be an
advantage.
• Athlete experience—both in practice and managerial terms, would be an advantage.
