Join the British Horseracing Development Programme 2024

Are you ready to kick-start your career in one of Britain's most thrilling and dynamic industries? Look no further than the British Horseracing Development Programme 2024. Formerly known as the British Horseracing Graduate Development Programme, this renowned initiative has been a cornerstone of talent development within the British Horseracing industry for over 30 years.

Why Choose Us?

Joining our programme opens doors to a world of opportunities within the vibrant horseracing community. Whether you're passionate about pursuing a career directly in the sport or wish to leverage your skills in other industries, our programme equips you with invaluable employability skills and hands-on experience to succeed.

About Horseracing

Horseracing stands as the second-largest spectator sport in Great Britain, boasting 59 racecourses nationwide and hosting over 1,500 thrilling race meetings annually. With approximately 6 million attendees each year, the industry provides over 85,000 jobs across the country.

What We Offer

Embark on your journey with a comprehensive (NO COST) two-week residential induction course in Newmarket, Suffolk, the esteemed Home of British Horseracing. Dive deep into industry insights, participate in engaging lectures, and embark on exclusive tours to enrich your understanding of this fascinating world.

Following your induction, dive straight into a paid industry placement (on or above the National Living Wage or London Living Wage if the placement is based in London), lasting a minimum of 8 weeks (some extended placements available based on business needs). Here you can apply the knowledge learnt from the 2 week course to excel in your selected placement.

Approximately 16 to 20 places are available each year, in a variety of organisations, in locations across the UK. The programme provides an invaluable source of talent to the industry. Many of the programme’s alumni have established careers in a wide range of roles; management positions at racecourses, broadcasters, the trade press, bloodstock sales, and also at the British Horseracing Authority.

Is It for You?

If the allure of a dynamic career in one of Britain's most prestigious sports beckons, then our programme could be your perfect fit.

Who Can Apply?

Our programme welcomes candidates from diverse backgrounds, including recent graduates, higher apprentices, and individuals with equivalent skills and capabilities. Whether you're completing your final year of education or have already graduated, if you're passionate about forging a career in sports or horseracing, we encourage you to apply.

Application Process

Applications close on Thursday 29th February 2024. Successful candidates will be invited to an Assessment Session at our London offices in April 2024. Please note that travel expenses will not be covered. We are committed to providing a welcoming and supportive environment for all candidates.
