Specific Role Profile

London Stadium 185, operators of London Stadium, are looking to recruit two Deputy Safety Officers to join the team. London Stadium is a multi-purpose venue that is now the new home of West Ham United Football Club and is also equipped to host concerts, Rugby Union and League, as well as top class athletics and other events.

The Deputy Safety Officers will be “hands-on”, working within the Safety & Security team and will support the Head of Safety & Security to prepare for and deliver events at the Stadium, including fulfilling paperwork obligations and undertaking the role of Safety Officer on event days.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities – Deputy Safety Officer

1 Undertake the role of Deputy Safety Officer for large events and work towards acting as Event Safety Officer with venue experience

2 Provide leadership to the stewarding team on event days

3 Ensure that LS185 is fully compliant regarding its requirements under health, safety and environmental legislation and codes of practice

4 Liaise with the Local Authority, Police, Fire and Ambulance Services and any other body e.g. Safety Advisory Group in the relation to the maintenance of the Stadiums General and Special Safety Certificates

5 Ensure that the operator, its staff and supply partners are fully compliant with current legislation, monitoring performance, conducting inspections, reviewing documentation and implementing changes where necessary

6 Responsible for overseeing the Event and Non-Event Day Security Operations

7 Ensure that the Stadium is compliant with the Fire Regulatory Act 2005

8 To produce and keep under review a Stewards manual outlining their duties in both normal and emergency situations

9 Where there is an event under the control of a nominated Event Safety Officer the post holder will support the Event Safety Officer in all aspects of Stadium Safety in compliance with “The Green Guide”.

10 Where nominated as Event Safety Officer the post holder will perform the role in accordance with “The Green Guide”.

11 Carry out all duties to help support LS185’s mission statement in line with the core values

12 Adhere to the LS185 Procurement Process and ensure that all the Purchase Orders / financial information are entered accurately in line with the deadlines communicated by the Finance department

13 Comply with company regulations, policies and procedures

14 Take responsibility for own Health and Safety requirements

15 Undertake such other duties appropriate to the level and character of work as may reasonably be required.  Significant permanent changes in duties will require agreed revisions to be made to this Job Description.

Person Specification


Holding or working towards Level 4 qualification in Spectator Safety Management

2 Personal Licence under Licensing Act (Desirable)

3 Security Management Licence

4 NEBOSCH or alternative H&S qualification

Knowledge & Experience

5 Experience of representing an organisation publically at a senior level

6 Strong interpersonal skills and relationship management experience

7 Competence and experience of working in crowd management in a multi-use stadium environment

8 Competence and experience of working in a security environment

9 Competence and experience of working at a senior management level

10 Project management experience

11 Competence and experience of briefing and debriefing

12 Competence and experience of leading large teams

13 Experience of liaising and coordinating with external and internal customers to deliver results professionally, efficiently and within budget restraints
