Your role will be to maintain, grow and enhance the quality of our media rights deals dataset.  This dataset is made up of deals between sports rights holders, broadcasters and agencies and is used to power our media rights data tool - a high-value subscription product.  Through your constant interaction with the database, you will develop a deep understanding of the market, becoming the super-user of the dataset.

SportBusiness Group

SportBusiness Group (SBG) is an information provider to the sports market with a publishing background.  We have been active in the sports market for over 20 years and have a reputation as having the most accurate, independent deal data in the media rights industry.  We provide information, daily news and data-led analysis to major sports rights holders, broadcasters and agencies in the industry.

TVSM’s investigative journalism allows them to make accurate estimates of contract durations and values which are then added to the data set which we have collected over the years.  Our clients access this data through a data tool, Rights Tracker, which allows them to interrogate the dataset to inform them for their own work in the buying and selling of media rights.

The Role

The main responsibilities will be the uploading of information from our media rights coverage and the enhancing of existing data points with further desk research.  Other regular tasks will involve bespoke research projects to support the journalism team.  Due to your work with the extensive information about this niche market, you will become the super-user of the dataset and will work with the product teams and consultancy divisions to bring new layers of data to aid analysis.

Alongside the maintenance of the current database, we are about to undergo a migration project to merge the media rights database with our sponsorship database.  For this project we will be transforming the data and aligning it with our sponsorship dataset – any skills in SQL or other data cleaning languages will be useful here.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys research projects and can maintain focus to gain a full understanding of a topic
  • Understands the principles of organised data and has an eye for analysis – any demonstration of good analysis done as part of a former job or task will be good to see
  • Has good Microsoft Office skills – particularly Excel and Access

  • Experience working with Tableau dashboards
