The administration of the sport in Australia is currently organized in a federated structure. Each member state runs its own local competitions and is administered by a Board and a small number of paid staff. With the aim of providing a more consistent approach nationally and reducing duplication, as encouraged by Sport Australia, WPA has been working towards a unified national plan and unified behaviours in pursuit of this plan.

The Board of WPA is seeking to recruit a new Chief Executive Officer to lead the sport in the next phase of its development.

The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for all aspects of WPA’s activities and reports to the WPA Board. The role has leadership responsibility across 11 full time & 1 part time paid employees.

You will have a successful track record in managing like-sized businesses, budgets and resources, successfully delivering against strategic objectives and driving business development.

Your commercial acumen will be matched by your sound judgment, integrity, creative decision making capability, and the capacity to negotiate the best possible outcomes for WPA whilst at all times maintaining support and engagement of the stakeholder family. You will need to be a persuasive and influential negotiator with a keen sense of audience, empathy and political awareness.

Candidates will also need to demonstrate a commitment and passion to drive, grow and service the whole-of-sport from grass roots and development pathways through to the Olympic Games.

A background in sports administration or water polo is not considered essential, however you must be committed to providing strong foundations for the long term growth and success of the sport of water polo across Australia.

Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Australia without visa or immigration sponsorship.
