Job Description

Director of Football Participation & Development

The Football Association (The FA) is the governing body of football in England. We are responsible for promoting and developing the game at all levels; from grass roots through to the professional game, The FA Cup and the England International teams, and we have two core assets: Wembley Stadium and St George’s Park.

The Role

As a member of the FA’s Senior Management team, the Director of Football Participation and Development will have full responsibility for effectively delivering The FA’s National Game Strategy.

With responsibility for driving football participation in England, attracting new participants to the sport, whilst better retaining existing players through engaging programmes.

Additionally, you will have responsibility for overseeing The FA’s facility strategy, ensuring that appropriate investment is made to create and manage facilities that best serve increasing football participation in England.

Crucially, they will manage important stakeholder relationships with funding as well as delivery partners that include Sport England, The Football Foundation and County FAs (CFAs).

Candidate Specification

The successful candidate will have experience of driving sport participation with measurable positive outcomes and an in-depth appreciation of the challenges and opportunities facing sports participation in England.

Experience of partnering with a broad range of stakeholders is vital along with considerable experience of working with, presenting to and influencing Boards and senior audiences.

An appreciation for all aspects of the National Game as well as the role of the CFAs and grassroots leagues, knowledge of the game is essential for success in the role.

In this senior management role proven experience of P&L management and extensive experience of managing complex and sizeable budgets is key, along with an appreciation of how technology can be effectively utilized to drive behavioural change.
