The RYA has a mission to increase the diversity and number of boaters within the United Kingdom, in order to protect our network of clubs, centres, class associations and support the broader marine sector and industry.  Having introduced over 800,000 young people into boating since 2005 through the RYA’s OnBoard programme and 32,000 a year through Push the Boat Out, the RYA has achieved a great deal.  However, the world is changing and boating needs to work hard to continue to attract new participants and ensure they are supported through a lifetime within the sport.

The Role

The RYA is looking for an accomplished manager who will be an integral part of the Sport Development team.  Their remit will principally involve:-

  1. Ensuring the data and insights that are produced are fully utilised, robust and reliable, with resources used to full effect
  2. Designing and implementing effective and efficient programmes of work aimed and increasing regular participation in boating
  3. Working with a complex network of stakeholders, including many clubs and volunteers, to maximise the breadth and impact of the Sport Development department’s work.

Much of this work will involve working with the Director of Sport Development to implement the participation element of the RYA’s Strategy and supporting the regional field teams to support the execution of their regional plans.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in project or programme management and experience of managing, leading and developing a team. They will also have experience of working with a complex network of supporting stakeholders.  A detailed understanding of the sport or the marine sector is highly desirable.  In ensuring we utilise our resources most efficiently, the ability to understand and strategically evaluate complex and varied data is an essential requirement for the role.

Experience of marketing, although not essential, would be desirable, as in an increasingly busy marketplace we need to ensure our programmes and awards are actively promoted and marketed.

Based at RYA HQ in Hamble, the role involves some travel and attendance to conferences and events outside of normal office hours which time off in lieu will be granted.
