The World Curling Federation is seeking an ambitious and creative media officer to take the lead on the new Curling World Cup series and join the World Curling media team in delivering its other international events, amongst other day-to-day duties of this growing media team.

The World Curling Federation Media Officer will be immersed in the operations of the organisation’s media team – be it in the office, in the build-up to events and on the road at international championships.

  • The successful applicant will plan, create and publish content for a broad range of audiences and platforms;
  • They will contribute to the organisation’s communications and social media strategies;
  • They will help grow social media channels;
  • They will help implement development programmes;
  • They will be the main contact for and run media operations at the new Curling World Cup events;
  • and they will monitor the success of these tasks amongst other day-to-day duties of the team.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Come up with and write original and inspiring features
  • Take responsibility for increasing coverage of development work of the World Curling Federation, working closely with the competitions and development teams
  • Contribute to content plans for seasons/events
  • Write and proof newsletters, content for Annual Review, media guides and game reports
  • Create and share content – including graphics and video – and schedule posts for social media
  • Reply to queries on social media
  • Create and keep up-to-date social media lists
  • Compile monthly digital media stats and monitor success of campaigns
  • Support event media management
  • Manage media at events in absence of Head of Media
  • Write reports, features and take flash quote at events
  • Cultivate relationships with contractors, media and local organising committees on publication and event operation matters
  • General admin support to Head of Media
  • First point of contact for external, day-to-day, media requests/enquiries – including pictures, logo requests and permissions
  • Assist with coordination of content – updating calendars, liaising with internal and external production teams and ensure content is ready to publish at pre-arranged deadlines
  • Proactively seek out new and better ways to communicate messages and contribute ideas to the wider media team

Requirements:

Essential

  • Excellent written communication skills in English for various audiences and platforms
  • Ability to write clear, accurate and engaging copy
  • A keen eye for detail
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about social media and running accounts in a professional environment
  • Capable of balancing multiple tasks at one time and working to deadlines
  • Works well in a small team, with a hard-working and team focussed ethic
  • Good command of Microsoft Office programmes
  • Educated to degree level in communications, PR or similar
  • Evidence of working in busy press environments

Desirable

  • Digital editing software skills (graphic design, Photoshop)
  • Understanding of sport, sport terminology and curling
  • Experience uploading content to company websites
  • Graphic design and photograph capabilities
  • Can speak more than one language (English essential)
