Background

Never before has a British Athletics team won medals in all four relay disciplines at a World Championships or Olympic Games – until London 2017. This was an amazing achievement by our athletes, their personal coaches and support teams, but it is just the start.

4 relay medals should be the absolute minimum – our target now is to use this outstanding (but thus far one-off) team success as a springboard to deliver sustained relay AND individual medal success at the Olympic Games.

To do this, our Head of Power – Sprints, Hurdles & Relays needs a high quality and respected individual to pick up the baton and to help maximise EVERY medal opportunity.

What is the job?

Working hand-in-glove with the Head of Power – Sprints, Hurdles & Relays to deliver at least 4 relay and 2 individual medals at the 2020 Olympic Games. To live and breathe the British Athletics TEAM approach to relays and to influence athletes and their personal coaches to buy-in to this philosophy.

Act as a “performance manager” to challenge World Class Programme athletes, their personal coaches and their support teams to truly understand and execute What it Takes to Win.

To truly deputise for the Head of Power – Sprints, Hurdles & Relays in delivery of key sprints, hurdles or relay activity whenever required.

To provide technical and behavioural support to the Talent team to improve the number of sprinters/hurdlers within the pathway who are capable of winning individual or relay medals post 2020.

Who are we looking for?

Individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds/current roles are encouraged to apply. However, being a success in the role will depend on the ability to excel in the following areas:

Relationship management

  • Can you positively influence challenging individuals to maximise potential?

Energy

  • Do you have the same passion, energy and commitment as the athletes to do What it Takes to Win?

Technical credibility

  • Can you call upon the relevant technical knowledge to ensure you are credible and effective?

Trust

  • Can you build and maintain 100% trust with the Head of Power AND athletes/ coaches simultaneously?
