OC Sport is a global sports marketing and events management company specialising in professional sailing, running and cycling.  It manages competitive teams and provides consultancy to brands, host venues and other events.  Our offices in France, Switzerland, the UK form the OC Sport Group.

Job Description:

The Operations Manager is an integral part of the event operational team.  To succeed in this role it is essential that you are able to work calmly under pressure, lead a team, be able to facilitate and work to deadlines, sometimes with a tight turnaround, as well being proactive and presenting solutions instead of problems to the management team, and always  question the best way to manage the event operations to strive to be the best we possibly can be.

Working closely with the Senior Operations Manager and the Operations Executive you will adopt a hands-on approach to managing the container grounding, infrastructure build and pack down, procurement of equipment and vetting of suppliers. It will also be the role of the Operations Manager to line manage and train the Operations Assistant.  This role requires extensive global travel and significant time away from the office/home.  You may also be required to attend the other events in a supporting role.  The Operations Manager role involves, but is not restricted to, the following:

  • Successfully deliver the operational and logistical support for the Extreme Sailing Series events
  • Work closely with the Host Venue Managers to create site maps and delivery plans for each event venue and ensure that the event operations are delivered within time and budget
  • Attend site visits with the Host Venue Manager
  • Lead on the set-up and strike of temporary structures, internal builds and Race Village
  • Proactively source and research of potential suppliers  
  • Manage the inventory of all assets and premium items
  • Maintain event equipment and supplies
  • Line manage and train the Operations Assistant on the relevant programs and processes used for the planning, delivery and pack up of the event. 
  • Work with the Branding Manager for the events to create branding maps and ensure all branding meets contractual requirements
  • Briefing and management of the local event crew and contractors when arriving onsite
  • Be a point of contact on-site to ensure the delivery of the core services (power, water, fencing, lighting & machinery)
  • Develop and implement efficient container packing solutions
  • Lead by example at all events working with stakeholders and staff
  • Maintain excellent working standards and relationships utilising a proactive ‘can do’ approach
  • Management of budget lines working with Senior Operations Manager and Host Venue Managers

Person Specification:

  • UK or EU National essential
  • Extensive knowledge of event operations and logistics
  • Fluent in English with other languages as an advantage  
  • Excellent time management and planning, including setting and working to deadlines
  • Ability to work on-site at events throughout the year, attend meetings in any OC Sport offices or other meetings is essential
  • Ability to work under own initiative and within a team
  • Good communicator with the ability to maintain relationships and to lead and motivate a team in challenging and sometimes stressful environments
  • Resourceful, creative and willing to learn
  • Calm under pressure
  • Enjoys significant travel and working in new and sometimes challenging cultures, even at weekends and during the summer
  • A passion for sport, and particularly sailing, would be beneficial but not essential
  • Great sense of humour 
  • Excellent organisational skills and self-motivated personality, with the ability to work to tight deadlines 
  • Programme knowledge: Microsoft programs and Auto CAD is essential, Mac operator beneficial, but not essential, and Sketch up knowledge for 3D maps and concepts highly sought after
  • Enjoys a ‘project’ based lifestyle
