Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

Overall responsibility is to implement all AFC Development activities in all of the AFC Member Associations of the West region. At this point in time, that means:

  • League Development Programme: currently 10 of the 13 MAs in the region are part of the Programme for league and club development. The Development Officer is responsible for creating a plan of action, strategy and key performance indicators plus the implementation of the Programme in each of the MAs;
  • AFC Financial Assistance Programme (AFAP): currently 10 of the 13 MAs in the region receive the AFAP grant. The Development Officer is responsible for assisting the MAs with the planning for utilization of the AFAP grant and adherence to AFAP regulations. All payments to the MAs are to be managed by the Development Officer;
  • President’s Initiatives (PI): the Development Officer is responsible for the implementation of all PI projects in the West region;

In essence, the role is a one of a proactive, internal consultant who is available to provide strong guidance and resources for AFC MAs to better achieve their goals.


The ideal candidate will be a graduate of a sport management undergraduate or postgraduate degree

Experience of working with AFC MAs within the West region or working for a MA, league or club in the region is vital to understanding what is required to be successful

The Development Officer must be fluent in written and spoken business Arabic and English

Experienced in giving presentations to senior management


Strong communication skills, capable of giving confident and relevant advice to senior management of AFC Member Associations

Must be confident as the lead person for each project, taking initiative to create solutions to the challenges faced by the AFC MAs

Must be capable of adapting style and approach in order to adjust to the different culture, resources and business style of each of the MAs in the region
