Director - Athlete Performance Support Consultants, High Performance Sport New Zealand
High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ) was established in 2011 to lead the High Performance sport system in New Zealand.
The HPSNZ vision is to have more New Zealanders winning on the world stage and will achieve this by focussing on the key strategic drivers of People, High Performance Environment, Planning & Monitoring, Immersion, Innovation and Intelligence.
Athlete Performance Support (APS) is one of the 4 pillars of HPSNZ, focused on leading the delivery, implementation and monitoring of critical strategies to deliver world leading performance support for New Zealand athletes and coaches, working in partnership to increase high performance capabilities of National Sporting Organisations (NSOs).
Based on high performance plans, targeted sports (and some campaign funded sports) are allocated athlete ‘cards’ which entitle athletes with podium potential to support in the following areas:
- Performance Support: strength & conditioning, performance nutrition, physiology, psychology and performance & technique analysis.
- Sports Medicine: sports physicians, sports doctors and physiotherapists.
- Athlete Life Programme
- Specialist Support: massage, chiropratic, osteopathy, podiatry, sports vision and pilates.
As the employer of these support staff HPSNZ is uniquely positioned to select and appoint these staff aligning them with the specific need of the NSOs and targeted campaigns.
Reporting to the General Manager - APS, the Director - APS Consultants is responsible for leading the APS Consultants (4) to oversee the allocated APS resources to assigned NSOs or targeted campaigns. The Director will ensure alignment to strategy, investment decisions and NSO and/or campaign prioritised performance needs. The Director will also have specific responsibilities as an APS Consultant for a cluster of assigned NSOs or targeted campaigns.
To be considered for this role you must have extensive experiences working in high performance sport environments and be skilled in the needs analysis, strategic planning, implementation and evaluation of performance support initiatives. An in depth knowledge of the different types of performance support appropriate for various training and competition needs is required.
Candidates will be experienced in successfully leading a team within a high performance environment; including elite athletes, elite coaches, High Performance Directors and/or other performance enhancement team members. You will require an understanding of best practice when leading a support team to optimise their expertise.
This is an exciting time to be joining HPSNZ. You will be part of a world's best organisation and working alongside a highly professional, committed, passionate team with an absolute focus on ensuring New Zealand's athletes and teams win on the world stage.
This is your chance to lead the support team that ensures sports are provided with the performance support required to enhance New Zealand's competitive advantage on athlete and sport performance!
