Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport

The Commonwealth Games is one of the largest mega multi-sport events in the world, attracting more than 6,500 athletes and officials and over a million spectators. 

On 21st December 2017 the Commonwealth Games Federation awarded the hosting rights for the 2022 Games to Birmingham. The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has been working with Commonwealth Games England, Birmingham City Council and the West Midlands Combined Authority to put in place the necessary structures to deliver a world class Games in 2022. Central to this will be the Organising Committee, which will have responsibility for planning and delivering the Games.

The Organising Committee of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Birmingham 2022 Ltd will be a Non-Departmental Public Body, and its sponsoring government department will be the DCMS.
