What to expect from a career at BT Sport
Published: 08 Sep 2015
The acquisition of the broadcasting rights for Ashes cricket in 2017-18 is the most recent addition to the rapidly growing sports portfolio of BT Sport, which already includes all UEFA Champions League fixtures and 38 Barclays Premier League matches this season (increasing to 42 matches from 2016-17).
This growth is mirrored in the number of vacancies they are advertising to strengthen key areas of their team on our GlobalSportsJobs.com platform.
But what would it be like to work at BT sport, and what are they looking for in new team members?
In a recent interview aired on the ‘BT TV On Air Creative’ Vimeo channel, Head of BT Sport Simon Green talked about how BT Sport works together with other parts of the BT infrastructure, expansion plans of BT TV and characteristics true of all employees in the BT Sport team. Annique Appadoo, a Production Support Specialist at BT Sport, also offers some insight into how volunteering opportunities offered by the broadcaster has helped her career development:
“The great thing about working for BT is that there are lots of opportunities for volunteering. I’ve helped out with two telethons in the year since I joined. And I’ve been back to my old school to support students getting ready for work experience.
“It was good for my career development too. I got to practise interviewing skills. Up until then I’d always been on the other side!
“And although they’re exhausting, I’d recommend volunteering at a telethon. You might be on the phone for about ten hours, but there’s a real family feel, with everyone helping each other out. It’s a chance to network too. You can put faces to names, and find out what other people in the company do.”
