Hawk-Eye secures Canada’s Women’s World Cup rights for GLT
Published: 08 Apr 2015
In a ground breaking move for women’s football, GlobalSportsJobs client Hawk-Eye has officially been announced as the supplier of goal line technology (GLT) for Canada’s Women’s World Cup in June.
This will be the first time that GLT has been used at the showpiece women’s event and again provides another piece of history in the rapidly expanding sport.
The news comes after GLT was successfully implemented into the Men’s World Cup in Brazil last year, The Confederations Cup, also held in Brazil, and three editions of the Club World Cup.
Having missed out on the men’s World Cup in Brazil to rivals GoalControl last year, this will become only the second time Hawk-Eye has supplied GLT for one of FIFA’s major tournaments. It was used for the first time at the 2012 World Club Cup tournament in Japan.
Hawk-eye is no stranger to major sporting events however, having provided their technology to some of Europe’s major football leagues including the German Bundesliga and the English Premier League. Hawk-Eye also has experience working with other sports having supplied their technology to athletics, badminton and rugby union and are considered a serious competitor in the world of GLT and sport.
